Three-Day Udaipur Itinerary

Day 1 · Fri, Oct 9
Udaipur

Old City and Lake Pichola

  1. Medhya — Udaipur; arrive around 2 PM, allow time to check in and settle before heading out.
  2. Gangaur Ghat — Old City; take an easy first stroll by the water in the late afternoon (~30 minutes).
  3. Lake Pichola — Old City waterfront; see the lake from the shore or take a boat ride if departures are available (~1–1.5 hours).
  4. Upre — rooftop at Lake Pichola Hotel; enjoy dinner and lake views (~1.5–2 hours; about ₹1,000–₹2,000 per person, and booking ahead is wise).

Afternoon

Arrive at Medhya around 2 PM, check in and take a breather before heading into the Old City. From there, use an auto-rickshaw or taxi to Gangaur Ghat; the lanes around the waterfront are narrow, so expect to walk the last stretch. Spend about 30 minutes by the steps, watching the lake activity and taking in the old havelis along the shore. The ghat is generally open to visitors and free to enter.

Late afternoon and evening

Continue along the waterfront to Lake Pichola for an easy hour or so. You can enjoy the views from shore, or check for boat departures at the nearby jetty; rides and prices vary by operator, and sunset boats can sell out, so ask locally and allow time for a queue. Shared rides commonly cost several hundred rupees per person, with sunset or private options costing more. In October, aim to be on the water or at the shore before dusk.

Dinner

Finish at Upre, the rooftop restaurant at Lake Pichola Hotel, for dinner and lake views. Allow 1½–2 hours; budget roughly ₹1,000–₹2,000 per person, depending on your order, and book ahead if you want a good sunset-time table. The Old City lanes can be congested, so leave a little extra time to walk to the restaurant rather than counting on a vehicle to reach its door.

Day 2 · Sat, Oct 10
Udaipur

City Palace and Udaipur Havelis

  1. City Palace — Old City; spend the morning exploring the palace complex and museum (~2.5–3 hours; allow extra time for entry queues).
  2. Jagdish Temple — Old City; visit this richly carved temple nearby (~30–45 minutes).
  3. Jagdish Temple kachori — Old City; stop at a local kachori stall near the temple for a quick snack or light lunch (~30 minutes; about ₹50–₹200 per person).
  4. Bagore Ki Haveli — Gangaur Ghat; explore the historic haveli and its exhibits in the afternoon (~1–1.5 hours; evening performances, if offered, may require advance tickets).
  5. Qalaa Art Cafe — Old City; unwind over coffee or a light meal (~1 hour; about ₹300–₹700 per person).

Morning

Start around 9:00 AM at City Palace, while the courtyards and galleries are still relatively calm. Allow 2.5–3 hours, plus time for the ticket queue; the complex is generally open daily from about 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Budget roughly ₹400–₹500 per adult for museum entry, with add-ons such as camera fees or special exhibits potentially extra. Check the official ticket information before you go, and take your time—the palace is a maze of terraces, painted rooms and lake-facing views.

Lunch and afternoon

Walk through the Old City lanes to Jagdish Temple for a 30–45-minute visit; modest dress is appreciated, and you may need to leave shoes outside. Then grab a quick bite at a Jagdish Temple kachori stall nearby—about ₹50–₹200 per person, depending on what you order. Continue on foot to Bagore Ki Haveli and allow 1–1.5 hours for its rooms and exhibits; it is generally open during the day, but confirm the current hours and entry price locally. The evening folk-dance show, if running, is a separate visit and may need advance tickets.

Late afternoon

Finish at Qalaa Art Cafe for coffee or a light meal (around ₹300–₹700 per person) and a relaxed break before heading back. The Old City lanes are best explored on foot; if you’re tired, an auto-rickshaw can take you close to the cafe, though drivers may not be able to reach every narrow lane. Keep a little buffer between stops—weekend crowds can slow both palace entry and walking.

Day 3 · Sun, Oct 11
Udaipur

Udaipur Lakes and Hills

  1. Sajjangarh Monsoon Palace — hilltop west of the city; go early for panoramic views, allowing time for the uphill drive and return (~2 hours; check access and transport arrangements before setting out).
  2. Karni Mata Temple — Machla Magra; visit the hilltop temple and viewpoint (~1–1.5 hours; ropeway access, if operating, may involve a queue).
  3. Udai Kothi — Hanuman Ghat; have an early meal or coffee by the lake (~1 hour; about ₹500–₹1,200 per person).
  4. Medhya and onward departure — return to collect your bags and leave by 1 PM; keep a generous buffer for checkout and the transfer. Plan to skip Bahubali Hills on this trip: its out-of-town drive and walk would make the morning too tight alongside these stops and your departure.

Morning

With a 1:00 PM departure and your bags to collect from Medhya, this morning is too tight for all three planned stops. Sajjangarh Monsoon Palace generally opens around 9:00 AM, and the uphill drive takes roughly 30–45 minutes each way; allow about 1½–2 hours there, including the views and any vehicle queue. You could make it the one morning visit, then return to Medhya to check out and collect your bags—but you would need to leave the palace by about 11:00 AM, and even that leaves little buffer.

Before departure

Fitting Karni Mata Temple and Udai Kothi in as well would make the schedule unreliable: the ropeway can have queues, and a meal or coffee at Udai Kothi needs time of its own. If all three are priorities, the practical fix is to move your departure later; otherwise, keep the 1:00 PM departure and choose just one stop before returning to Medhya. Check Sajjangarh Monsoon Palace access and the Karni Mata Temple ropeway’s operating status before setting out, and keep a taxi or pre-arranged car for the morning rather than relying on finding transport between stops.
