Dates are flexible. This day-by-day plan is provisional until you choose exact travel dates.
Take the earliest practical flight from Chennai to Jaipur. Allow roughly 6–9 hours door to door for airport access, the flight, baggage and a pre-booked pickup; the actual flight schedule will determine how much of the day remains. From Jaipur International Airport, a cab to the Old City usually takes around 30–45 minutes, depending on traffic. Since the afternoon visits depend on your arrival time, check the flight schedule before committing to them.
Start at Hawa Mahal, admiring its famous pink façade from the street; allow about 30 minutes. Then walk or take a short cab ride to City Palace, Jaipur for its courtyards and collections—budget 1.5–2 hours and check current hours, ticket prices and any special-entry requirements in advance. This is a tight pairing on a travel day: aim to reach the palace well before its afternoon closing time, and be prepared to shorten the visit if your flight is delayed.
Eat at Laxmi Mishthan Bhandar (LMB) in Johari Bazaar, where you can try Rajasthani dishes and sweets; allow about an hour and budget roughly ₹300–700 per person. Finish at Jal Mahal on Man Sagar Lake for the sunset view—its palace interior is generally not open to visitors. It’s about 20–30 minutes by cab from the Old City, traffic permitting; leave enough time to reach the lakeside before sunset.
Head to Amber Fort early, ideally around opening time (typically 8:00am), before the courtyards heat up and tour groups build. Allow 2–3 hours for the ramparts, courtyards and palace rooms; admission and any special experiences have separate charges, so check the current ticket rules before you go. A cab from central Jaipur usually takes about 30–45 minutes, longer in traffic. Continue to Panna Meena ka Kund, a short drive away, for around 30 minutes. Its geometric stairways are beautiful to photograph, but follow any barriers or local instructions—access to the steps can be restricted for safety.
Visit Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing next, allowing about an hour to see its block-printing displays and working traditions. Check its current opening days and hours before setting out; it has historically closed on Mondays, so the day’s plan may need adjusting if your visit falls then. From Amer, allow roughly 15–25 minutes by cab. Afterward, head into Jaipur for Jaipur Blue Pottery Art Centre; budget about 45 minutes to browse the distinctive blue-glazed craft and, if available, see artisans at work. The drive can take around 30–45 minutes depending on traffic. Keep lunch flexible around Amer or on the way back rather than squeezing in a long sit-down stop.
Set aside about 3 hours at Chokhi Dhani on Tonk Road for its staged village-style atmosphere, cultural performances and Rajasthani dinner. A cab from central Jaipur typically takes 30–45 minutes, but allow extra time in evening traffic; arrange a return pickup through your driver or hotel. Expect roughly ₹1,000–2,000 per person depending on the dining package and activities, and check the current schedule and rates before you go.
Leave Jaipur early for Sawai Madhopur; the road transfer usually takes about 4–5 hours door to door, and traffic or a meal stop can add time. Confirm your afternoon safari permit before setting out, and ask your hotel to arrange a pickup and help you reach the safari reporting point on time. If you’re taking the train instead, allow extra time for station transfers and waiting.
After checking in and having a light lunch, head to Ranthambore National Park for your pre-booked safari. The outing typically takes around 3–4 hours including reporting and transfers; arrive at the assigned meeting point with your permit and ID, and bring a warm layer for the open vehicle. Permits and vehicle allocation need to be booked in advance, and tiger sightings are never guaranteed—the forest, lakes and other wildlife make the drive worthwhile in their own right.
Ranthambore Fort is a rewarding hilltop visit, but fitting it in after an afternoon safari is generally not realistic: the safari can run close to dusk, and fort access involves its own park-area entry and climb. Treat it as conditional only if your safari ends early and access is still permitted; otherwise, you’ll need an additional night in Sawai Madhopur to visit without rushing. For dinner, settle in at The Dining Room at Ranthambhore Regency; expect roughly ₹700–1,500 per person, and check the restaurant’s serving hours with the hotel.
Keep today deliberately light: the drive from Sawai Madhopur to Jodhpur takes roughly 8–10 hours with breaks, so an early start is essential and traffic or meal stops can push arrival later. Check in, freshen up and head into the Old City only if you arrive with enough daylight and energy; a car can drop you near Clock Tower, but the narrow market lanes are best explored on foot.
Wander Clock Tower and Sardar Market for 45–60 minutes, browsing the lanes at an easy pace rather than trying to cover the whole market. Then walk to Toorji Ka Jhalra Bavdi, the restored stepwell, and spend about 30–45 minutes taking in its carved stonework and the old lanes around it. Light and access can vary, so if you arrive late, enjoy the area from street level and don’t rush down the steps.
For dinner, Indique Restaurant is a lovely, unhurried choice near the market, with rooftop views toward Mehrangarh Fort; expect roughly ₹800–1,800 per person and reserve ahead if possible. Because this is such a long transfer day, treat the market and stepwell as optional stops if you’re tired or arrive after dark—save your energy rather than squeezing in sightseeing.
After the Jodhpur–Jaisalmer transfer, keep the day for getting settled and preparing for your onward journey. The train takes around 5–6 hours; allow extra time for station transfers, check-in and any delays. A desert safari won’t fit realistically alongside that journey and same-day onward travel, so don’t count on seeing the dunes today.
Allow a full day door to door for Jaisalmer–Chennai travel, and confirm an actual flight itinerary before booking—don’t assume a convenient direct flight or connection. With this five-day route, the desert safari and Chennai departure cannot both be comfortably accommodated today. For the honeymoon experience you want, add one night in Jaisalmer: spend the evening at the dunes on a pre-booked safari, then travel to Chennai the following day. If you can’t add a night, prioritize the onward journey and leave the safari for another visit.
