Udaipur, Mount Abu and Nathdwara Rajasthan Circuit

Dates are flexible. This day-by-day plan is provisional until you choose exact travel dates.

Day 1
Udaipur

Arrival and lakeside heritage in Udaipur

  1. Udaipur Airport/Railway Station to hotel — Airport Road or Udaipur railway station; allow ~1–1.5 hours for pickup, city transfer, check-in, and luggage, depending on arrival time.
  2. Saheliyon-ki-Bari — Panchwati; explore the fountains, gardens, and marble pavilions in the late morning, ~1 hour.
  3. Upre by 1559 AD — Chandpole; lunch with lake and City Palace views, approximately ₹800–1,500 per person.
  4. City Palace — Old City; tour the grand courtyards, galleries, and royal apartments in the afternoon, ~2–2.5 hours.
  5. Lake Pichola boat ride — Rameshwar Ghat or City Palace jetty; enjoy sunset views of Jag Mandir and the waterfront, ~1 hour. Boat schedules and tickets are subject to availability.
  6. Bagore Ki Haveli Museum and Dharohar Folk Dance — Gangaur Ghat; visit the haveli before the evening folk performance, allowing ~2 hours. Performance seating is typically ticketed and should be checked or booked in advance.

Arrival and Morning Garden Visit

After arriving at Udaipur Airport or Udaipur Railway Station, allow roughly 1–1½ hours for luggage, pickup, the transfer into town, and hotel check-in. The airport is about 22 km from the old city; a pre-arranged hotel taxi is easiest, while station-to-hotel auto-rickshaws are practical for lighter luggage. Once settled, head to Saheliyon-ki-Bari in Panchwati, a peaceful garden of marble pavilions, lotus pools, and fountains built for the royal ladies. Allow about an hour. It generally opens from around 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM; entry is inexpensive, usually under ₹50, though timings and fees can change.

Lunch and City Palace

Have lunch at Upre by 1559 AD in Chandpole, where the rooftop tables give you a fine first look across Lake Pichola toward the old city and palace complex. Expect approximately ₹800–1,500 per person, and call ahead if you want a lakeside table. From there, continue into the Old City for City Palace, allowing 2–2½ hours for the courtyards, mirrorwork, royal apartments, and galleries. It is best visited in the afternoon before the narrow lanes become busiest; standard museum admission is commonly several hundred rupees, with separate charges possible for special sections. Use a taxi to the nearest accessible point and walk the final stretch, as traffic restrictions and congestion around the palace are common.

Sunset on the Lake and Evening Folk Show

Take the Lake Pichola boat ride from Rameshwar Ghat or the City Palace jetty, ideally timed near sunset. The roughly hour-long ride offers lovely views of Jag Mandir, the City Palace waterfront, and the Aravalli-framed skyline. Boats can sell out, particularly in the cooler season, so check availability and ticket terms at the palace rather than relying on a last-minute seat. Afterward, walk to Bagore Ki Haveli Museum at Gangaur Ghat; visit the haveli first, then stay for the Dharohar Folk Dance performance, which usually begins in the evening and lasts about an hour. Seating is ticketed and should be booked or verified in advance, with arrival 20–30 minutes early recommended. After the show, walk or take a short auto-rickshaw ride back to your hotel for dinner.

Day 2
Mount Abu

Hill retreat and temples in Mount Abu

Getting there from Udaipur
Private car or taxi via NH 27 and the Abu Road ascent (4–5 hours door-to-door, approximately ₹4,500–7,000 per car). Depart around 7:00–8:00 AM after breakfast to reach Mount Abu before afternoon visits. Book through your hotel, MakeMyTrip cabs, or Uber/Ola where available.
  1. Udaipur to Mount Abu — Via NH 27 and the Abu Road ascent; depart after breakfast and allow ~4–5 hours door-to-door, including checkout, a rest stop, hill-road traffic, and hotel check-in.
  2. Dilwara Jain Temples — Near Delwara; admire the intricate marble carvings during the afternoon, ~1.5 hours. Entry rules, photography restrictions, and visitor timings should be verified locally.
  3. Nakki Lake — Mount Abu town center; take a relaxed lakeside walk or optional paddle boat, ~1 hour.
  4. Café Coffee Day, Mount Abu — Nakki Lake area; take a light snack or coffee break, approximately ₹250–500 per person.
  5. Toad Rock — Near Nakki Lake; climb for panoramic views in the late afternoon, ~45 minutes, allowing extra time on uneven steps.
  6. Sunset Point — southwest Mount Abu; arrive 45–60 minutes before sunset for the hill views, allowing ~1 hour including the return to town.

Morning — Udaipur to Mount Abu

After breakfast, check out of your Udaipur hotel and leave around 7:00–8:00 AM for Mount Abu. The private-car journey via NH 27 and the Abu Road ascent takes about 4–5 hours door to door, including a comfort stop, hill-road traffic, and check-in. Keep water and a light snack handy; the final climb is winding, and arrival can be slower on weekends and public holidays. After reaching your hotel, leave luggage and have lunch nearby before heading out—trying to fit the sightseeing in before mid-afternoon would make the day unnecessarily rushed.

Afternoon — Marble artistry and Nakki Lake

Begin with the Dilwara Jain Temples, around 25 minutes from central Mount Abu by taxi or auto-rickshaw. Allow roughly 1½ hours to appreciate the exceptionally fine marble ceilings, pillars, and floral carving. Visitor timings, identification requirements, dress expectations, and photography restrictions can change, so confirm locally or through your hotel before setting out; photography inside may be prohibited. A taxi for the afternoon is more comfortable than relying on autos, particularly if you are carrying bags or travelling during a busy period.

Return to town for a relaxed walk beside Nakki Lake, where the promenade is liveliest in the late afternoon. An optional paddle boat usually takes about 20–30 minutes, subject to weather and ticket availability. Pause at Café Coffee Day, Mount Abu near the lake for coffee or a light snack—budget approximately ₹250–500 per person—before continuing on foot toward Toad Rock. The climb takes about 15–20 minutes each way and involves uneven steps, so wear shoes with a good grip and avoid carrying more than you need.

Evening — Hilltop sunset

From Toad Rock, allow around 10–15 minutes to return toward the main lake area, then take an auto-rickshaw or taxi to Sunset Point in the southwest of Mount Abu. Arrive 45–60 minutes before sunset for the best chance of a clear viewpoint; the approach can become congested, and the walk may involve uneven ground. After the colours fade, return to your hotel for dinner and a quiet evening. Check the sunset time locally, as it varies through the year, and carry a light layer—the hill station can feel noticeably cool after dark.

Day 3
Nathdwara

Temples and cultural landmarks in Nathdwara

Getting there from Mount Abu
Private car or taxi via Abu Road and NH 27 (4.5–5.5 hours, approximately ₹4,500–7,000 per car). Depart around 6:30–7:00 AM; this is the most practical option and gives the best chance of reaching Nathdwara for a useful darshan window. Arrange through your hotel or MakeMyTrip cabs.
Bus via Abu Road/Udaipur (approximately 6–8 hours including connections, ₹300–700 per person). Check Rajasthan Roadways and RedBus, but schedules and connections are less convenient.
  1. Mount Abu to Nathdwara — Via Abu Road and NH 27; depart after breakfast and allow ~4.5–5.5 hours including checkout, traffic, and a brief stop.
  2. Shrinathji Temple — Nathdwara Old Town; attend an available darshan and explore the devotional lanes, allowing ~1.5–2 hours. Darshan windows are restricted and may require advance planning; confirm the day’s schedule before departure.
  3. Rasala Restaurant — Nathdwara; have lunch with North Indian and Rajasthani options, approximately ₹400–800 per person.
  4. Shilpgram — Near Havala village, Udaipur; browse the crafts village and regional arts if arrival is early enough, ~1–1.5 hours. Otherwise, omit it to protect the airport/station transfer buffer.
  5. Maharana Pratap Smarak and Moti Magri — Udaipur; enjoy a brief final cultural stop and city views, ~1 hour.
  6. Udaipur airport or railway station — Allow ~45–75 minutes from central Udaipur, plus check-in and security time; plan departure with at least a 2-hour buffer for a flight or train.

Morning — Mount Abu to Nathdwara and darshan

Leave Mount Abu after an early breakfast, ideally around 6:30–7:00 AM. Allow 4½–5½ hours door to door via Abu Road and NH 27, including checkout, traffic and one short comfort stop. On arrival, have the driver drop you near the restricted vehicle zone of Nathdwara Old Town; the final approach to Shrinathji Temple is usually on foot through busy devotional lanes. Darshan timings are divided into short daily windows and can change, so confirm the schedule with your hotel or the temple’s official channels before leaving Mount Abu. Allow 1½–2 hours for queues, security, darshan and the surrounding lanes; modest clothing and leaving large bags in the car will make entry easier.

Afternoon — Lunch and a choice of Udaipur stops

Have lunch at Rasala Restaurant in Nathdwara, where North Indian and Rajasthani dishes are generally a comfortable choice; budget about ₹400–800 per person. Then continue by private car toward Udaipur, allowing roughly an hour for the onward drive. Only attempt Shilpgram if you reach the city early and your flight or train is comfortably later: the crafts village near Havala takes about 1–1½ hours, and it is better omitted than rushed. If time is limited, go directly to Maharana Pratap Smarak and Moti Magri instead for a brief cultural stop and broad views over Udaipur. Check the day’s opening hours locally, as attraction schedules can vary, and keep some buffer for city traffic.

Evening — Departure from Udaipur

From central Udaipur, allow approximately 45–75 minutes to Udaipur Airport or Udaipur Railway Station, depending on traffic and your exact hotel. For a flight, aim to arrive at least two hours before departure; for a train, allow extra time if boarding at the station during an evening rush. Your driver should remain available through the sightseeing, since changing vehicles or relying on last-minute app taxis can be inconvenient after the long intercity journey.
