Ahmedabad to Udaipur 3-Star Hotel Trip

Dates are flexible. This day-by-day plan is provisional until you choose exact travel dates.

Day 1
Udaipur

Arrival and sightseeing in Udaipur

  1. Ahmedabad–Udaipur road transfer — Ahmedabad to Udaipur; depart around 6:30 AM for the approximately 5–6-hour drive, allowing time for a breakfast stop, traffic, hotel check-in, and luggage drop-off. A private car is most practical; confirm parking at the Udaipur hotel.
  2. Jagdish Temple — Old City; visit this historic Vishnu temple after check-in, allowing ~45 minutes. Entry and worship access may be restricted during active prayer times.
  3. City Palace Udaipur — Old City; explore the palace museums and courtyards for ~2 hours, ideally before late afternoon crowds; verify current ticketing and closing time.
  4. Ambrai Ghat — Old City waterfront; enjoy sunset views across Lake Pichola and the City Palace for ~45 minutes.
  5. Upre by 1559 AD — Chandpole; have dinner with rooftop lake and palace views, allowing ~1.5 hours and approximately ₹800–₹1,500 per person. Reservations are advisable.
  6. Udaipur hotel return — Old City or central Udaipur to your 3-star hotel; return after dinner, typically a 10–25-minute auto-rickshaw or taxi ride depending on the hotel location.

Morning: Ahmedabad to Udaipur

Leave Ahmedabad around 6:30 AM in a private car via the NH48 route toward Udaipur. The drive is usually about 5–6 hours, but allow closer to 7 hours door-to-door for city traffic, a breakfast stop, tolls, and the approach into Udaipur. Stop at a highway restaurant around Himmatnagar or Shamlaji rather than waiting until the outskirts. On arrival, go straight to your 3-star hotel for check-in or luggage drop; confirm in advance that the hotel has parking, since Old City lanes are narrow and often unsuitable for cars.

Afternoon: Old City and Palace

After a short rest, take an auto-rickshaw or taxi to Jagdish Temple in the Old City—allow roughly 15–25 minutes from a central hotel, longer during busy periods. Spend about 45 minutes here, removing shoes before entering and dressing respectfully; worship access can be limited during active prayer ceremonies. Walk onward to City Palace Udaipur, where the interconnected courtyards, balconies, and museum rooms deserve around two hours. Check the current ticket price and closing time before leaving the hotel, and expect queues at the entrance; a standard visit generally costs several hundred rupees per adult, with optional museum or cultural-show tickets priced separately.

Evening: Lake Pichola and Dinner

From City Palace Udaipur, walk or take a short rickshaw ride toward Ambrai Ghat for sunset. Allow about 45 minutes to sit by the waterfront and watch the palace facades light up across Lake Pichola; the final stretch can be crowded, so leave the palace with enough time to find a good viewpoint. Continue to Upre by 1559 AD in Chandpole for dinner, ideally with a reservation requesting a rooftop table. Budget approximately ₹800–₹1,500 per person, and allow 1½ hours; the rooftop is popular for its lake and palace views, though service can slow at sunset.

After dinner, return to your hotel by auto-rickshaw or taxi. From Chandpole or the Old City, the ride is typically 10–25 minutes depending on where you are staying; cars may need to stop short of narrow lanes, so keep the hotel address and a nearby landmark available. If driving back to Ahmedabad the same night is intended, it is not practical after this full sightseeing day—plan to stay overnight and depart early the following morning, rather than attempting the 5–6-hour road journey after dinner.
