Two-Day Outer Banks Itinerary in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Wright Brothers National Memorial
10 minutes (3.5 miles) from Kitty Hawk Beach

Start your day by visiting the Wright Brothers National Memorial, which honors the aviation pioneers who first flew here in 1903. Experience the thrill of flying by taking a full-size replica of their plane for a spin. In the afternoon, visit Kitty Hawk Beach and soak up some sun. In the evening, take a walk on the Kitty Hawk Pier for some stunning ocean views.

  2. Day 2: Cape Hatteras Lighthouse
40 minutes (24.9 miles) from Nags Head Beach

Head to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, one of the most iconic landmarks in the Outer Banks. Climb up the 257 steps to the top for unparalleled views of the Atlantic Ocean. In the afternoon, visit Nags Head Beach for some beachcombing and fishing. In the evening, take a guided ghost tour of the Bodie Island Lighthouse and learn about the history and hauntings of the Outer Banks.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider visiting the Roanoke Island Festival Park, where you can experience life in the 16th century at an Elizabethan settlement. Another great side trip is to take a ferry to Ocracoke Island, where you can visit the Ocracoke Lighthouse and explore the charming village. To maximize your fun, try some of the local cuisine, such as crab cakes and oysters, or take a scenic drive along the Outer Banks Scenic Byway.
