Darjeeling Family-Friendly 3-Day Itinerary in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Happy Valley Tea Estate
    20 minutes (3.5 km) from Darjeeling Mall Road

    Start off your family-friendly trip to Darjeeling with a visit to Happy Valley Tea Estate. Take a guided tour of the tea processing unit and tea garden, learn about the history of tea in Darjeeling, and taste a variety of teas. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre to see handicrafts and watch artisans at work. In the evening, head to the Darjeeling Mall Road for shopping and dining.

  2. Day 2: Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park
    15 minutes (2.5 km) from Darjeeling Mall Road

    On your second day, visit the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park for a chance to see rare and endangered Himalayan animals such as snow leopards, red pandas and Tibetan wolves. The park also houses a breeding center for these animals. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Himalayan Mountaineering Institute to see mountaineering artifacts and attend a rock climbing or rappelling session. In the evening, head to the Darjeeling Ropeway for a scenic cable-car ride.

  3. Day 3: Tiger Hill and Batasia Loop
    1 hour (10 km) from Darjeeling Mall Road

    On your last day, wake up early and head to Tiger Hill for a breathtaking sunrise view of the Kanchenjunga and Everest peaks. On your way back, visit Batasia Loop, a spiral railway track with a garden and a war memorial. In the afternoon, visit the Rock Garden and Ganga Maya Park, a beautiful picnic spot with waterfalls and gardens. In the evening, head to Glenary's Bakery and Cafe for some delicious snacks and baked goods.

Recommendations

If you have time, consider visiting the Ghum Monastery, the Japanese Peace Pagoda, and the St. Andrew's Church. You can also take a side trip to Mirik, a serene hill station with a beautiful lake. To maximize your fun, try some local snacks such as momos, thukpa, and churpee cheese. You can also take a ride on the famous Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, also known as the "Toy Train". Finally, make sure to pack warm clothes as June can be chilly in Darjeeling.
