Exploring Wayanad in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Edakkal Caves
    30 minutes (10 miles) from Kalpetta

    Start your day by exploring the Edakkal Caves, which is located on Ambukutty Mala. The caves consist of ancient petroglyphs, which date back to the Neolithic era. Take a guided tour of the caves, and learn about the history and significance of the carvings. In the afternoon, head to Kalpetta for a delicious lunch at one of the local restaurants. After lunch, visit the Chembra Peak, which is the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek to the top is challenging but worth it as the views from the summit are breathtaking. In the evening, head to the Pookode Lake, a freshwater lake located in the Wayanad district. Take a pedal boat ride and enjoy the scenic beauty of the lake.

  2. Day 2: Banasura Sagar Dam
    1 hour 20 minutes (31 miles) from Kalpetta

    Start your day with a visit to the Banasura Sagar Dam, which is the largest earthen dam in India. Take a guided tour of the dam and learn about its history and construction. After the tour, enjoy a picnic lunch by the reservoir. In the afternoon, head to the Thirunelli Temple, which is an important pilgrimage site for Hindus. The temple is situated in the Brahmagiri Hills, and the drive to the temple is scenic. Spend some time exploring the temple complex and learning about its history. In the evening, head back to Kalpetta for dinner and spend the rest of the night at your leisure.

  3. Day 3: Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary

    Start your day early and head to the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary for a jungle safari. The sanctuary is home to a variety of animals, including elephants, leopards, tigers, and deer. Take a guided tour of the sanctuary and keep your camera ready to capture some amazing wildlife shots. In the afternoon, head to the Soochipara Waterfalls, which is a three-tiered waterfall located in the Vellarimala mountain range. Take a dip in the natural pool and enjoy the scenic beauty of the waterfall. In the evening, head back to Kalpetta for dinner and spend the rest of the night at your leisure.
