3-Day Adventure Itinerary for Kedarnath in September 2023

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath Temple

    Start your day with an early morning visit to the famous Kedarnath Temple, one of the Chota Char Dham pilgrimage sites. Located in the Himalayas at an altitude of 3,583 meters, the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains. After breakfast, take a trek to Vasuki Tal, a glacial lake that is surrounded by snow-covered peaks, and enjoy a picnic lunch by the lake. In the evening, return to the temple for the evening aarti ceremony, and witness the spiritual energy of the pilgrims as they offer prayers to Lord Shiva.

  2. Day 2: Chorabari Tal

    Start your day with an early morning trek to Chorabari Tal, also known as Gandhi Sarovar, a glacial lake located at an altitude of 3,900 meters. The trek offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas, and you can spot a variety of flora and fauna on the way. After reaching the lake, enjoy a picnic lunch by the lake. In the afternoon, visit the Shankaracharya Samadhi, a memorial dedicated to Adi Shankaracharya, the philosopher who established the Advaita Vedanta philosophy. In the evening, relax and unwind in the natural hot springs of Gaurikund.

  3. Day 3: Sonprayag

    Start your day with a thrilling river rafting experience on the Mandakini River, which is surrounded by lush greenery and offers a scenic view of the Himalayas. After lunch, visit the Triyuginarayan Temple, a Hindu pilgrimage site that is believed to be the place where Lord Shiva and Parvati got married. In the evening, head to Sonprayag, a beautiful village located at the confluence of two rivers, for a scenic walk and enjoy the local cuisine.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, you can also visit the nearby trekking destinations such as Kedartal, Chandrashila, and Deoria Tal. You can also take a side trip to Badrinath, another Chota Char Dham pilgrimage site, located 150 km from Kedarnath. To maximize your fun, we recommend booking a helicopter ride to Kedarnath to enjoy the stunning aerial views of the Himalayas. Don't forget to pack warm clothes, comfortable shoes, and rain gear as the weather can be unpredictable in the mountains.
