2-Day Itinerary for Coorg in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Abbey Falls
    30 minutes (14.5 km) from Madikeri

    Start the day with a visit to the stunning Abbey Falls. The falls are at their best during the monsoon season, but are a beautiful sight year-round. You can take a short hike down to the falls and admire the water cascading over the rocks. In the afternoon, head to Raja's Seat, a beautiful garden with a spectacular view of the surrounding hills. Relax on the benches and watch the sunset over the mountains. In the evening, visit Omkareshwara Temple. This 18th-century temple has a unique mix of Hindu and Islamic architecture and is a popular pilgrimage spot.

  2. Day 2: Dubare Elephant Camp
    1 hour 20 minutes (40 km) from Madikeri

    Get an early start and head to Dubare Elephant Camp, where you can interact with elephants and learn about their daily routines. You can watch them being bathed and fed, and even take a short ride on one of these gentle giants. In the afternoon, visit Nisargadhama, an island formed by the Cauvery River. You can take a walk through the bamboo groves, enjoy a picnic by the river, and even go boating on the calm waters. End your day with a visit to the Golden Temple in Bylakuppe. This peaceful Tibetan settlement has a beautiful monastery with intricate paintings and statues.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider visiting Talakaveri, the birthplace of the Cauvery River. You can take a dip in the holy waters and visit the nearby Bhagamandala Temple. For a more adventurous experience, try trekking to Tadiandamol, the highest peak in Coorg. You can also visit the coffee plantations and learn about the different varieties of coffee grown in the region.
