4-Day Itinerary for Kedarnath

  1. Day 1: Visit Kedarnath Temple

    In the morning, visit the Kedarnath Temple, one of the holiest Hindu shrines and one of the four sites in India's Chota Char Dham pilgrimage. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is situated at a height of 3,583 meters above sea level. Afternoon can be spent exploring the beautiful surroundings of the temple, such as the Kedar Dome and the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary. In the evening, attend the aarti at the temple, which is a beautiful sight to witness.

  2. Day 2: Vasuki Tal Trek
    Located in Kedarnath, opening hours: 24 hours
    1 hour and 30 minutes (8.9 km) from Kedarnath Temple

    Spend the day trekking to Vasuki Tal, a serene alpine lake located at an altitude of 4,150 meters. The trek starts from Kedarnath and takes approximately 6-7 hours to complete. The trek is moderately difficult and requires a good level of fitness. The trail offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, glaciers and valleys. The lake is considered sacred by Hindus and is surrounded by a beautiful meadow. Spend some time by the lake, taking in the peaceful surroundings before heading back to Kedarnath.

  3. Day 3: Gaurikund and Sonprayag
    Located in Rudraprayag, opening hours: 24 hours
    1 hour and 15 minutes (30 km) from Kedarnath Temple

    Visit Gaurikund, the starting point of the Kedarnath trek and the place where Lord Shiva agreed to stay permanently as a jyotirlinga. The town is named after Goddess Parvati, also known as Gauri. Take a refreshing dip in the hot water springs at Gaurikund before heading to Sonprayag, a scenic town located at the confluence of the Mandakini and Vasuki Ganga rivers. Enjoy the beautiful views of the rivers and the surrounding mountains before heading back to Kedarnath.

  4. Day 4: Kedarnath Helicopter Ride and Bhairavnath Temple
    Kedarnath Helipad, opening hours: 6:30 AM – 11:10 AM, 11:20 AM – 2:00 PM
    5 minutes (2.1 km) from Kedarnath Temple

    Take a helicopter ride over the beautiful Himalayan mountains before departing from Kedarnath. The helicopter ride offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. After the helicopter ride, visit the Bhairavnath Temple, which is dedicated to Bhairav, a fierce form of Lord Shiva. The temple is located on a hill and offers panoramic views of the surroundings. Spend some time at the temple before departing from Kedarnath.
