2-Day Adventure Itinerary for Wayanad in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    1 hour (15 miles) from Kalpetta

    Morning: Start your day early and head to Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek to the top takes around 3-4 hours and requires a moderate level of fitness but the views from the top are absolutely breathtaking. Don't forget to take a permit from the forest office before starting the trek.
    Afternoon: Head to Pookode Lake, located around 1 hour away from the peak. It's a beautiful freshwater lake surrounded by greenery that offers boating and nature walks.
    Evening: Visit the Banasura Sagar Dam, around 40 minutes away from the lake. It's the largest earthen dam in India and offers stunning views of the surrounding hills. You can also take a speed boat ride in the backwaters of the dam.

  2. Day 2: Thirunelli Temple and Edakkal Caves
    2 hours (43 miles) from Banasura Sagar Dam

    Morning: Visit the ancient Thirunelli Temple, located in a picturesque valley surrounded by mountains. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in Wayanad.
    Afternoon: Head to the Edakkal Caves, around 1 hour away from the temple. The caves are a popular tourist spot and have ancient rock carvings dating back to the Neolithic age. The trek to the caves takes around 45 minutes and is slightly steep but rewarding.
    Evening: End your trip with a visit to the Soochipara Falls, located around 1 hour away from the caves. It's a three-tiered waterfall surrounded by lush green forests and is perfect for a refreshing dip.

If you're interested in wildlife, you can visit the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary or the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary. Both are home to a variety of animals like elephants, tigers, leopards, and deer. You can also take a trip to the nearby town of Sultan Bathery and visit the ancient Jain temple ruins. For a unique experience, you can go on a night safari at the Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary. Lastly, don't forget to try the local cuisine, which is a mix of Kerala and Karnataka flavors.
