Kedarnath Adventure Itinerary - September 2023

  1. Day 1: Trek to Kedarnath Temple
    Starting point: Gaurikund (5.8 miles)

    In the morning, trek to the Kedarnath temple (11,755 ft) which is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. Enjoy the scenic beauty of the Himalayas and the Mandakini river. Reach the temple in the afternoon and experience the serene surroundings. In the evening, attend the evening aarti and witness the divine atmosphere.

  2. Day 2: Vasuki Tal Trek
    Starting point: Kedarnath Temple (3.7 miles)

    In the morning, trek to Vasuki Tal (14,200 ft) which is a high altitude lake surrounded by majestic peaks. The trek is challenging and requires good physical fitness. Enjoy the mesmerizing views of Chaukhamba, Kedarnath, and other peaks. Afternoon, return to Kedarnath Temple. In the evening, you can explore the local markets and try some local cuisine.

  3. Day 3: Bhairon Temple Trek
    Starting point: Kedarnath Temple (1.5 miles)

    In the morning, trek to Bhairon temple (9,938 ft) which is located on a hilltop near the Kedarnath temple. Enjoy the panoramic views of the Kedarnath valley and the Himalayas. Afternoon, return to Kedarnath Temple. In the evening, you can relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

  4. Day 4: Chopta Trek
    Starting point: Kedarnath Temple (17 miles)

    In the morning, drive to Chopta which is also known as the mini Switzerland of India. The drive takes around 2 hours through scenic routes. On arrival, start the trek to Tungnath temple (12,073 ft) which is the highest Shiva temple in the world. The trek is moderate and offers stunning views of the Himalayas. Afternoon, return to Chopta. Explore the local markets and enjoy the local cuisine. In the evening, you can relax and enjoy the serene surroundings.

  5. Day 5: Deoria Tal Trek
    Starting point: Sari Village (24.7 miles)

    In the morning, drive to Sari village and start the trek to Deoria Tal (7,841 ft) which is a pristine lake surrounded by lush green forests and snow-capped peaks. The trek is easy and takes around 2 hours. Enjoy the beauty of the lake and the surroundings. Afternoon, return to Sari village. In the evening, you can relax and enjoy the local cuisine.

  6. Day 6: Gaurikund Trek
    Starting point: Kedarnath Temple (12 miles)

    In the morning, trek to Gaurikund which is the base camp for the Kedarnath trek. The trek is downhill and takes around 5 hours. Enjoy the scenic beauty of the Mandakini river and the surrounding valleys. Afternoon, reach Gaurikund and relax. In the evening, you can explore the local markets and try some local cuisine.

  7. Day 7: Return Home
    Starting point: Gaurikund

    After a wonderful adventure in Kedarnath, it is time to return home. You can take a taxi or a bus from Gaurikund to Haridwar/Rishikesh and then take a train/flight to your destination.

If you have some extra time, you can consider visiting Badrinath temple which is another important temple in the Char Dham Yatra. You can also visit Auli which is a popular skiing destination and offers stunning views of the Himalayas. To maximize your fun, make sure to pack warm clothes, comfortable shoes, and enough water and snacks for the treks. You can also hire a local guide for the treks. Lastly, don't forget to carry your camera to capture the stunning vistas of the Himalayas.
