Vietnam on a Shoestring Budget - 7 Day Itinerary (June 2023)

  1. Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City
    15 minutes (4.5 km) from Tan Son Nhat International Airport

    Start your trip by visiting the iconic landmarks like the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office in the morning, followed by a trip to the War Remnants Museum and the Ben Thanh Market in the afternoon. End the day with some street food at the Bui Vien Walking Street in District 1.

  2. Day 2: Nha Trang
    1 hour 20 minutes flight from Ho Chi Minh City

    Take a morning flight to Nha Trang and visit the famous Po Nagar Cham Towers. Enjoy some fresh seafood at the Dam Market for lunch and then spend the afternoon sunbathing and swimming at the beautiful Nha Trang Beach. In the evening, head to the Night Market for some souvenir shopping.

  3. Day 3: Hoi An

End the day with a scenic sunset cruise along the Perfume River.

  5. Day 5: Hanoi

    Take a morning flight to Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam. Visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the Temple of Literature and the Hoan Kiem Lake in the morning. Have some bun cha for lunch, a local specialty. In the afternoon, visit the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre and the St. Joseph's Cathedral.   6. Day 6: Halong Bay
    3 hours (170 km) by bus from Hanoi

    Take a morning bus to Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with stunning natural beauty. Take a 4-hour boat tour in the bay and visit the Sung Sot Cave. Enjoy a seafood lunch on board and then spend the afternoon kayaking or swimming in the clear blue water. End the day with a beautiful sunset view from the boat.

  7. Day 7: Ho Chi Minh City
    3 hours 30 minutes flight from Hanoi

    Take a morning flight back to Ho Chi Minh City and spend the day exploring the city on your own. You can revisit your favorite spots or discover new hidden gems. End the day with some shopping at the Saigon Square or the Vincom Center.

If you have more time, consider visiting the Mekong Delta, the Cu Chi Tunnels or the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. For side trips, you can take a day trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels or the Mekong Delta from Ho Chi Minh City.
