Explore the Best of New Delhi in One Day

  1. 9:00 AM: Red Fort
    10 minutes (3.5 km) from your hotel

    Start your day by visiting the magnificent Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and take a walk-through history to understand the Mughal Empire's past. You can explore the fort's Diwan-i-Khas, Diwan-i-Aam, and Mumtaz Mahal, among many other attractions.

  2. 11:00 AM: Jama Masjid
    15 minutes (4 km) from Red Fort

    Next, head to the largest mosque in India, Jama Masjid. The mosque was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the 17th century and can accommodate up to 25,000 devotees. You can also climb to the top of the southern tower to enjoy the stunning panoramic views of Old Delhi.

  3. 1:00 PM: Lunch at Karim's
    10 minutes (1 km) from Jama Masjid

    After visiting Jama Masjid, walk towards Karim's, a famous 100-year-old restaurant that serves lip-smacking Mughlai cuisine. The place is known for its mutton korma, chicken jahangiri, and biryani, among others.

  4. 2:30 PM: Lotus Temple
    25 minutes (12 km) from Karim's

    Head towards the Bahai House of Worship, popularly known as the Lotus Temple, which is a symbol of unity, peace, and purity. The temple's architecture is in the shape of a lotus flower with 27 petals made of white marble. You can enjoy the serenity and meditate in the temple.

  5. 4:30 PM: Qutub Minar
    25 minutes (15 km) from Lotus Temple

    Next, head towards the Qutub Minar, another UNESCO World Heritage Site and the world's tallest brick minaret. The 73-meter-tall structure was built in the 12th century by Qutub-ud-din Aibak. You can also visit the Iron Pillar, which is over 1,500 years old and has not rusted to date.

  6. 6:30 PM: India Gate
    30 minutes (16 km) from Qutub Minar

    End your day by visiting India Gate, a war memorial and a popular picnic spot for locals. The 42-meter-high archway was built to commemorate the Indian soldiers who died in World War I. You can also enjoy boating in the nearby lake or relish some street food.

Recommendations

If you have some extra time, you can consider visiting the following places: Humayun's Tomb, Akshardham Temple, Raj Ghat, Chandni Chowk, and National Museum. You can also take a side trip to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal, or Jaipur to explore the Pink City. To maximize your fun, try taking a rickshaw or a tuk-tuk ride in Old Delhi, or indulge in some street photography.
