Begin your morning with a visit to the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, established in 1954 to promote mountaineering as an organized sport in India. The museum showcases the history and equipment used in mountaineering expeditions, including the successful ascent of Mount Everest by Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary. After lunch, take a ride on the Darjeeling Ropeway for spectacular views of the valley and tea gardens. End the day with a stroll through the vibrant Chowrasta square, the heart of Darjeeling.

Wake up early to catch the stunning sunrise at Tiger Hill, located at an altitude of 8,500 ft. On a clear day, the view of the Kanchenjunga and Mount Everest ranges is breathtaking. After breakfast, visit the Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Center, which was established in 1959 to rehabilitate Tibetan refugees who fled to India. The park also has a breeding center for the Siberian tiger and Himalayan black bear. After lunch, visit the Japanese Peace Pagoda, built in 1972 to promote peace and non-violence. The pagoda has four avatars of Buddha and offers a panoramic view of the Darjeeling hills. End your day with a cup of Darjeeling tea at the Glenary's rooftop café.

Recommendations

If you're interested in tea, don't miss the Happy Valley Tea Estate, where you can take a guided tour and learn about tea production. For adventure seekers, a trek to Sandakphu, the highest peak in West Bengal, is highly recommended. You can also visit the nearby town of Kalimpong, known for its orchids and scenic views of the Teesta River. To maximize your fun, consider hiring a local guide who can take you off the beaten path and show you the hidden gems of Darjeeling.
