4-Day South Goa Itinerary for August 2023

  1. Day 1: Basilica of Bom Jesus
    40 minutes (16.3 miles) from Goa International Airport

    Morning: Visit the Basilica of Bom Jesus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the oldest churches in India. It is home to the preserved body of St. Francis Xavier.

    Afternoon: Head to the nearby Se Cathedral, a 16th-century Portuguese-Gothic style cathedral that houses the Golden Bell, the largest bell in Goa.

    Evening: Take a stroll around Fontainhas, the Latin Quarter of Panaji, known for its colorful houses and quaint cafes.

  2. Day 2: Dudhsagar Falls
    1 hour 30 minutes (37.9 miles) from Panaji

    Morning: Embark on a scenic train ride to the Dudhsagar Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in India. The train journey takes you through picturesque jungles and tunnels.

    Afternoon: Enjoy a dip in the natural pool at the base of the waterfall, or take a jeep safari to the nearby spice plantations.

    Evening: Return to your hotel for a relaxing evening or head to Palolem Beach for some nightlife.

  3. Day 3: Colva Beach
    45 minutes (13.8 miles) from Palolem Beach

    Morning: Start your day with some sun and sand at Colva Beach, one of the most popular beaches in South Goa.

    Afternoon: Visit the nearby Our Lady of Mercy Church, known for its exquisite Baroque architecture and stunning frescoes.

    Evening: Take a leisurely stroll along the beach and indulge in some delicious seafood at the beachside shacks.

  4. Day 4: Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary
    1 hour 10 minutes (27.8 miles) from Colva Beach

    Morning: Explore the Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary, home to a variety of flora and fauna, including leopards, tigers, and pangolins.

    Afternoon: Head back to Palolem Beach for some water sports, such as kayaking or paddleboarding.

    Evening: Enjoy a sunset boat ride and soak in the beauty of the Arabian Sea.

Recommendations

If you have some extra time, consider visiting the Cabo de Rama Fort, a 16th-century Portuguese fort with panoramic views of the Arabian Sea. You can also take a day trip to the spice plantations of Ponda, or visit the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary to catch a glimpse of the elusive black panthers. And don't forget to try some of the traditional Goan dishes, such as vindaloo and fish curry, for a true culinary experience.
