2-Day Itinerary for Ooty in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Government Botanical Garden
    10 minutes (2.5 km) from Ooty Lake

    In the morning, visit the Government Botanical Garden, which is spread over 22 hectares and has a collection of more than 650 species of plants and trees. Stroll through the colourful flower beds, fern house, Italian garden and the glasshouse that is modelled on the Crystal Palace in London. Afternoon, head to the Rose Garden, which has more than 20,000 varieties of roses, including miniature roses, hybrid tea roses, and floribunda. In the evening, take a ride on the Nilgiri Mountain Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, that connects Ooty to Mettupalayam. Enjoy the scenic views of the Nilgiri hills and tea plantations along the way.

  2. Day 2: Avalanche Lake
    50 minutes (23.1 km) from Government Botanical Garden

    Start the day early and head to Avalanche Lake, which is a paradise for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts. The lake is surrounded by dense forests, and you can go trekking, camping, fishing, or boating here. Spend the morning exploring the beautiful surroundings, spotting birds and wildlife. Afternoon, visit the Pykara Waterfalls, which is a short drive away from the lake. The falls offer picturesque views, and you can go for a boat ride in the Pykara Lake. In the evening, head to the Ooty Lake, which is an artificial lake surrounded by eucalyptus trees and lush greenery. You can go for a boat ride or horse riding here.

If you have more time, you can visit the Doddabetta Peak, which is the highest point in the Nilgiri hills and offers panoramic views of the valley.
