  • Day 1: Explore the City Centre

    Start your exploration of Milan by visiting the Duomo di Milano, the largest cathedral in Italy. Admire the intricate details of its exterior and interior architecture while learning about its rich history. Continue on to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a 19th-century vaulted shopping arcade filled with high-end boutiques and restaurants. End the day at Sforza Castle, a medieval fortress with parks, museums and art collections.

  • Day 2: Art and Science

    Start your day by visiting the Pinacoteca di Brera, a museum filled with Italian artwork from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. Afterward, visit the Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci, which houses many of Leonardo da Vinci's inventions and innovative scientific displays. End the day with a visit to Navigli District, an area filled with vintage shops, cafes, bars and a lovely canal.

Transportation

Public transportation such as the metro, bus or tram are convenient options to travel around Milan. One-way tickets cost €2 and can be bought at stations, or 24 or 48-hour tickets priced at €4.50 and €8.25 respectively are available to purchase. Taxis are also a solution, but it is advised to ensure the taxi is official to avoid scams. The travel time from the airport to the city centre takes around 30-45 minutes and can cost between €20-€50 depending on the option chosen.

Useful tips

If you have more time, visit the Santa Maria delle Grazie and view Leonardo da Vinci's famous painting "The Last Supper" but book your tickets in advance. Or visit the Teatro alla Scala, one of the most famous opera houses in the world, but book your tickets ahead of time. If you have less time, consider visiting the city's green spaces such as Parco Sempione or Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli.

Airports

There are two airports in Milan, Malpensa Airport (MXP) and Linate Airport (LIN). Both airports are roughly 50 minutes away from the city centre by public transportation and are reachable by taxi or car. Malpensa Airport is the main international airport and is located 40km northwest of the city centre, whereas Linate Airport is much closer, located only 7km east of the city centre, mostly serving domestic and European destinations.
