Two-Day Itinerary for Waynad in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Banasura Sagar Dam
    30 minutes (12.1 km) from Kalpetta

    In the morning, visit the Banasura Sagar Dam, which is one of the largest earth dams in India. Take a boat ride on the reservoir to enjoy the scenic beauty of the surrounding hills. For lunch, head to the nearby Vythiri village and try some local cuisine at the popular Restaurante Annapurna. In the afternoon, take a short trek to the Banasura Hill and enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys. In the evening, head back to Kalpetta and visit the Pookode Lake, which is a natural freshwater lake surrounded by lush green forests.

  2. Day 2: Edakkal Caves
    45 minutes (13.5 km) from Kalpetta

    Start your day with a visit to the Edakkal Caves, which are a set of natural caves that have ancient rock carvings and inscriptions. The caves are located on top of Ambukuthi Mala and require a short trek to reach. For lunch, head to the nearby Kozhikode and try some local seafood at the popular Paragon Restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the Soochipara Waterfalls, which is a three-tiered waterfall surrounded by scenic beauty. In the evening, head back to Kalpetta and visit the Chain Tree, which has a legendary story behind it.

If you have time, you can also visit the Thirunelli Temple, which is a famous ancient temple located amidst the jungle.
