2-Day Itinerary for Kedarnath in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Visit Kedarnath Temple

    The Kedarnath Temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is believed that the temple was built by the Pandavas and is situated at an altitude of 3583 meters. In the morning, you can attend the Abhishek Puja which takes place from 4:00 AM to 7:00 AM. Afterward, you can explore the temple and offer your prayers. In the afternoon, you can trek to Gandhi Sarovar which is located at a distance of 3 km from the temple. The trek is relatively easy and takes around 2-3 hours. The evening can be spent attending the Aarti which is performed from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

  2. Day 2: Visit Vasuki Tal
    Located in Kedarnath

    Vasuki Tal is a high altitude lake located at an altitude of 4,150 meters and is surrounded by the Himalayan ranges. The trek to Vasuki Tal starts from Kedarnath and takes around 6-7 hours. The trek is quite challenging and is recommended for experienced trekkers. You can start early in the morning and carry enough water and snacks. After reaching the lake, you can spend some time enjoying the view and having lunch. The trek back to Kedarnath takes around 4-5 hours. In the evening, you can rest and relax in your hotel.

There are several other places to visit in Kedarnath such as Bhairav Temple, Shankaracharya Samadhi, and Sonprayag. You can also plan a side trip to Badrinath which is located around 230 km from Kedarnath. It is recommended to hire a taxi for the trip.
