3-Day Foodie Itinerary for Coorg in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Mercara Coffee Estate
    20 minutes (7.5 km) from Madikeri

    Morning: Start your day with a visit to the Mercara Coffee Estate, one of the largest coffee estates in Coorg. Learn about the history and process of coffee production and indulge in a coffee-tasting session.

    Afternoon: Head to Coorg Cuisine for a delicious Coorgi lunch. Try the signature pandi curry made from pork, locally grown spices and served with rice balls.

    Evening: End your day at the Big Cup Cafe, known for its freshly brewed coffee and homemade cakes. Try their signature coffee, the Big Cup Special.

  2. Day 2: Iruppu Falls
    1 hour 30 minutes (50 km) from Madikeri

    Morning: Start your day with a visit to the Iruppu Falls, nestled in the Western Ghats. Enjoy a scenic hike to the falls and take a refreshing dip in the cool waters.

    Afternoon: Head to the Thadiyandamol Trek Base Camp for a traditional Coorgi lunch. Try the bamboo shoot curry and the akki roti made of rice flour.

    Evening: Head to the Raja Seat Garden to enjoy the panoramic sunset view. End your day with a cup of coffee and a slice of cake at the Hilltown Cafe.

  3. Day 3: Dubare Elephant Camp
    45 minutes (19.5 km) from Madikeri

    Morning: Start your day with a visit to the Dubare Elephant Camp, where you can observe and learn about the lives of these gentle giants. Take a coracle ride and witness the elephants in their natural habitat.

    Afternoon: Head to East End Hotel for a scrumptious Coorgi lunch. Try the spicy koli curry made with chicken and locally grown spices.

    Evening: Head to the Coorg Adventure Club for an adrenaline-pumping zip-lining experience. End your day with a cup of coffee and some baked goodies at the Beans N Brews Cafe.

Recommendations

If you have more time, consider visiting the Tibetan Monastery in Kushalnagar, the Namdroling Monastery, and the Kabbe Hills. You can also take a side trip to the Nagarhole National Park and the Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary for some wildlife spotting. To maximize your fun, try the Coorgi wine at the Grover Zampa Vineyards.

Make sure to try the local street food, including akki roti, pork fry, and bamboo shoot curry. Don't forget to shop for local spices, coffee, and honey at the local markets.
