4-Day Itinerary for Kedarnath in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath Temple
    5 minutes (0.4 miles) from Hotel Mandakini

    In the morning, visit the Kedarnath Temple and witness the morning aarti. The temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and is known for its intricate architecture. Afternoon, explore the Vasuki Tal, a serene lake surrounded by the Himalayan Mountains. In the evening, head to Bhairon Mandir located on the Bhairav Parvat. This temple is dedicated to Lord Bhairav, the fierce form of Lord Shiva.

  2. Day 2: Gandhi Sarovar
    1 hour and 40 minutes (35.2 miles) from Kedarnath Temple

    In the morning, take a pony ride to Gandhi Sarovar, a beautiful lake named after Mahatma Gandhi. It is situated at a height of 14,100 feet and offers a magnificent view of the Himalayas. Afternoon, visit the Shankaracharya Samadhi, the final resting place of Adi Shankaracharya. In the evening, spend some time at the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary and spot some exotic Himalayan animals.

  3. Day 3: Sonprayag
    1 hour and 8 minutes (30.6 miles) from Gandhi Sarovar

    In the morning, take a dip in the holy water of Tapt Kund. Afternoon, head to Sonprayag, a scenic village located at the confluence of Mandakini and Basuki rivers. Visit the Triyuginarayan Temple, where Lord Shiva and Parvati got married. In the evening, explore the Guptkashi town and witness the beautiful sunset from the Manikarnik Kund.

  4. Day 4: Kedarnath Eco Trail
    1 hour and 18 minutes (34.7 miles) from Sonprayag

    In the morning, take a trek on the Kedarnath Eco Trail and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Himalayas. Afternoon, head to the Vasistha Cave, located near Gaurikund. The cave is believed to be the meditation spot of Sage Vasistha. In the evening, visit the Adi Guru Shankaracharya Statue, an 18-feet tall statue of Adi Shankaracharya located in Kedarnath.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, you can visit the Gaurikund Temple, which is dedicated to Goddess Parvati. You can also take a dip in the Gaurikund hot water spring, which is believed to have medicinal properties. If you want to take a side trip, you can visit the nearby town of Rudraprayag, which is located at the confluence of Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers. There are many adventure activities like river rafting and camping available in Rudraprayag. To maximize your fun, make sure to carry warm clothes, raincoats, and comfortable shoes.
