3-Day Wayanad Nature Itinerary for July 2023

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    30 minutes (11.5 km) from Kalpetta

    Get up early and trek to the Chembra Peak to enjoy the sunrise. Admire the beautiful scenery and lush greenery during the 4-km trek that takes around 3 hours. After descending from the peak, stop for lunch at the nearby restaurant, and then head to the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary. Here, take a jeep safari through the sanctuary, which is home to various animal species such as elephants, tigers, and leopards. After the safari, visit the nearby Kuruva Island to relax and rejuvenate by the river. In the evening, visit the Edakkal Caves, a prehistoric site that provides an insight into the history and culture of the region.

  2. Day 2: Banasura Sagar Dam
    40 minutes (20 km) from Kalpetta

    Start the day by heading to Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India. Take a boat ride on the lake and enjoy the serene atmosphere surrounded by the lush green hills. After the boat ride, trek to the nearby Meenmutty Falls, one of the largest and most beautiful waterfalls in the region. Have lunch at the nearby restaurant, and then visit the Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary, home to various bird species such as peafowls, woodpeckers, and babblers. End the day by visiting the Pookode Lake, a picturesque freshwater lake surrounded by forests and hills, where you can enjoy a boat ride.

  3. Day 3: Soochipara Falls
    1 hour 20 minutes (47 km) from Kalpetta

    On the final day, head to Soochipara Falls, a three-tiered waterfall that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding forests and hills. Trek to the base of the falls and take a dip in the cool water. After visiting the falls, head to the nearby Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, where you can take a jeep safari and spot various animals such as deer, elephants, and monkeys. Have lunch at the nearby restaurant and then visit the Thirunelli Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. End the trip by heading to the Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary for an evening safari.
