Visit the birthplace of Lord Krishna at the Shri Krishna Janmasthan Temple. The temple is one of the most famous and popular pilgrimage site in Mathura. It is said that the prison cell, in which Lord Krishna was born, is still preserved and can be seen here.
Also known as the Jagat Mandir, the Dwarkadhish Temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna. The temple is an architectural marvel and it is believed that the original structure was built 2,500 years ago by Lord Krishna's grandson. The temple is also famous for its paintings, sculptures and carvings.
The Kans Quila, also known as the Mathura Fort, was built by Raja Man Singh in 1616 AD. It was earlier the residence of Kans, the maternal uncle of Lord Krishna. The fort stands strong even after so many centuries and provides a magnificent view of the city.
A beautiful lake surrounded by trees and beautiful architecture, Kusum Sarovar is a must-visit destination. The lake is about 450 feet long and 60 feet deep and is surrounded by a flight of stairs on all four sides. It is believed to have been the favorite spot of Lord Krishna and his cowherd friends.
Vishram Ghat is one of the most famous ghats in Mathura. It is believed that Lord Krishna rested at this ghat after killing Kans. The ghat is also famous for its evening aarti and boat rides during the sunset.
If you have time, visit the Mathura Museum which houses rare artifacts and sculptures. You can also visit the nearby town of Vrindavan which is known for its temples and the Banke Bihari Temple. Don't forget to try the local delicacies like peda and chaat, which are famous in Mathura.
