3-Day Foodie Itinerary for Kovalam in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Kerala Cuisine Exploration
    20 minutes (6.8 miles) from Trivandrum International Airport

    In the morning, visit the local market for a crash course on traditional Kerala ingredients. Then, head to the popular local joint, Suprabhatam, for breakfast and try their fluffy appams with a side of spicy chicken curry. In the afternoon, stop by Villa Maya, a fine dining restaurant located in a restored 18th-century Dutch manor, to try their signature dish - the succulent Malabar fish curry. In the evening, visit the local hotspot, The Terrace, and try their seafood platter while enjoying the beautiful ocean view.

  2. Day 2: Seafood Extravaganza
    15 minutes (3.5 miles) from Kovalam Beach

    Start your day with a seafood breakfast at The German Bakery. Try their fresh seafood omelet and wash it down with some fresh fruit juice. In the afternoon, head to Curry Leaf Restaurant for some fresh catch of the day. Their seafood thali is a must-try. In the evening, head to The Floating Restaurant where you can enjoy a candlelit dinner on a floating boat. Try their grilled fish with a side of Kerala parotta.

  3. Day 3: Street Food Crawl
    10 minutes (2.7 miles) from Vizhinjam Lighthouse

    Start your day with some hot and crispy dosas at the local favorite, Geetha's Cafe. Then, head to the iconic Hotel Rahmaniya for some delicious beef fry. In the afternoon, visit the famous Kovalam Beach and indulge in some fresh seafood at the numerous beach shacks. In the evening, head to the Chalai Bazaar for a street food crawl. Try the local favorite, Kallummakaya fry, and end the night with some piping hot chai and banana fritters.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider taking a day trip to the nearby Poovar Island or the Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary. You can also take a cooking class to learn how to make traditional Kerala dishes. For a unique experience, try the local toddy, a fermented coconut sap drink.
