4-Day Adventure Itinerary for Wayanad and Munnar in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Explore the Edakkal Caves in Wayanad
    2 hours (41.8 miles) from Calicut International Airport

    In the morning, head to the Edakkal Caves, a prehistoric archaeological site, located on top of a hill. You can either choose to trek the hill or take a jeep ride. The caves are known for their ancient rock carvings. In the afternoon, visit the Pookode Lake, a freshwater lake surrounded by green surroundings. You can take a boat ride on the lake and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. In the evening, visit the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India, and enjoy the scenic beauty of the surrounding mountains and forests.

  2. Day 2: Trek to Chembra Peak and visit the Soochipara Waterfalls in Wayanad
    1 hour 30 minutes (34.9 miles) from Edakkal Caves

    In the morning, start your trek to Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek will take around 3-4 hours, and you will be rewarded with a stunning view of the surrounding hills and valleys. In the afternoon, visit the Soochipara Waterfalls, a three-tiered waterfall, surrounded by lush greenery. You can take a dip in the natural pool or simply enjoy the scenery. In the evening, return to your hotel in Wayanad.

  3. Day 3: Visit the Eravikulam National Park and the Tea Museum in Munnar
    3 hours 30 minutes (96.5 miles) from Wayanad

    In the morning, visit the Eravikulam National Park, home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr. You can take a guided safari to explore the park and spot various wildlife species. In the afternoon, visit the Tea Museum, located in the Nallathanni Estate, to learn about the history of tea production in Munnar. You can also take a tea tasting session. In the evening, stroll around the local markets and try some local delicacies.

  4. Day 4: Trek to Anamudi Peak and visit the Mattupetty Dam in Munnar
    1 hour 20 minutes (30.4 miles) from Eravikulam National Park

    In the morning, trek to Anamudi Peak, the highest peak in South India. The trek will take around 4-5 hours, and you will be rewarded with stunning views of the surrounding valleys and tea estates. In the afternoon, visit the Mattupetty Dam, a concrete gravity dam built on the Mattupetty Lake. You can take a boat ride on the lake and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. In the evening, return to your hotel in Munnar.
