Kedarnath 7-Day Itinerary (June 2023)

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath Temple
    5 minutes (0.3 miles) from Kedarnath Helipad

    In the morning, visit the famous Kedarnath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. Afternoon can be spent exploring nearby shops and local cuisine. In the evening, attend the musical aarti at the temple.

  2. Day 2: Vasuki Tal
    14.5 km (4 hours 30 minutes) from Kedarnath Temple

    Begin early for a trek to Vasuki Tal, a serene high altitude lake surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Picnic lunch at the lake and return to Kedarnath in the evening.

  3. Day 3: Gaurikund and Sonprayag
    23.4 km (1 hour 30 minutes) from Kedarnath Temple

    Take a road trip to Gaurikund, the base camp for the Kedarnath trek and visit the Gauri Mata Temple. Continue to Sonprayag, the confluence of rivers Basuki and Mandakini. Spend the evening exploring the local market and cuisine.

  4. Day 4: Triyuginarayan Temple and Guptkashi
    35.4 km (2 hours) from Sonprayag

    Visit the ancient Triyuginarayan Temple, famous for its eternal flame and being the site of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati's wedding. Continue to Guptkashi to visit the Ardhnarishwar Temple and explore the local markets for souvenirs and local food.

  5. Day 5: Tungnath and Chandrashila Trek
    55.9 km (3 hours) from Guptkashi

    Begin early for a scenic drive to Chopta, to start a 5km trek to Tungnath Temple, the highest Shiva Temple in the world. Continue to Chandrashila for unparalleled views of the Himalayas. Return to Chopta for dinner.

  6. Day 6: Kalimath Temple
    97.6 km (4 hours 30 minutes) from Chopta

    Visit the Kalimath Temple, dedicated to Goddess Kali and located amidst serene and picturesque surroundings. Afternoon can be spent exploring local villages and trying local cuisine. Return to Chopta for dinner.

  7. Day 7: Deoria Tal
    82.5 km (3 hours 30 minutes) from Chopta

    Begin early for a scenic drive to Sari Village, to start a 3km trek to Deoria Tal, a crystal-clear lake surrounded by lush greenery. Picnic lunch at the lake and return to Chopta for dinner.

Recommendations

Do not miss the opportunity to bathe in the natural hot water spring at Gaurikund. Consider visiting the nearby temples of Madmaheshwar and Tungnath to complete the Panch Kedar Yatra. For a longer trip, consider visiting the Valley of Flowers National Park and Hemkund Sahib.
