Two-Day Wayanad Itinerary in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Edakkal Caves
30 minutes (10 miles) from Kalpetta

Edakkal Caves lie 1,200 meters above sea level on the Ambukuthi Mala. You can take a 1.5 km hike to reach the caves, which have been around for over 8,000 years. The morning is the best time to visit as the weather is pleasant. The caves exhibit ancient carvings and stone-age artworks that are sure to fascinate history buffs. There are plenty of restaurants nearby for lunch. In the afternoon, visit the Wayanad Heritage Museum, which features an impressive collection of tribal artifacts. In the evening, visit the Pookode Lake, a freshwater lake, where you can take a boat ride while enjoying the scenic beauty.

  2. Day 2: Chembra Peak
1 hour 20 minutes (26 miles) from Kalpetta

Start your day by visiting the Chembra Peak, which is the highest peak in Wayanad. It takes around three hours to reach the summit, but the panoramic view from the top is worth the hike. Wear comfortable shoes and carry water bottles. The peak is closed during the monsoon season, so check for weather updates before visiting. Have lunch at a local restaurant before heading to the Soochipara Waterfalls, a three-tiered waterfall that cascades down from a height of 200 meters. You can take a dip in the pool at the bottom of the falls. In the evening, visit the Banasura Sagar Dam, which is the largest earthen dam in India. The dam offers water sports such as kayaking and speed boating.
