Experience Wayanad in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Edakkal Caves
    40 minutes (16.9 km) from Kalpetta

    In the morning, head to the Edakkal Caves, a prehistoric site with ancient carvings on caves. The trek to the caves is approximately 1.5 km and can take around 45 minutes. The carvings found in the caves date back to the Neolithic era. You can spend the afternoon exploring the nearby Wayanad Heritage Museum, which showcases the rich history and culture of the region. In the evening, you can visit the Pookode Lake, a serene freshwater lake surrounded by greenery. You can go boating or take a walk around the lake.

  2. Day 2: Banasura Sagar Dam
    1 hour 30 minutes (45 km) from Edakkal Caves

    Head to the Banasura Sagar Dam in the morning, one of the top tourist attractions in Wayanad. The dam is built across the Karamanathodu River and is surrounded by picturesque mountain ranges. You can take a speedboat ride or trek up to the Banasura Hill for a panoramic view of the dam. In the afternoon, visit the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary for a jungle safari. You can spot elephants, tigers, panthers, and other exotic animals. In the evening, visit the Soochipara Falls, a 3-tiered waterfall known for its natural beauty. You can take a dip in the pool below the falls.

  3. Day 3: Chembra Peak
    1 hour 30 minutes (29.2 km) from Banasura Sagar Dam

    Start early in the morning to trek up to the Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek can take around 3-4 hours and is quite challenging, but the view from the top is worth it. You can see the heart-shaped Chembra Lake from the peak. In the afternoon, visit the Karapuzha Dam, an earthfill dam built on the Karapuzha River. You can go for a picnic or take a boat ride on the dam. In the evening, visit the Thirunelli Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu that dates back to the 9th century. The temple is surrounded by hills and forests.

If you have time, you can consider visiting the Kuruva Island, a serene island on the Kabini River. You can take a boat ride or go for a nature walk.
