Two-Day Nature Itinerary in Wayanad

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    23 minutes (8.3 km) from Kalpetta

    Morning: Start your day early with a trek to Chembra Peak, the highest peak of Wayanad. The trek is around 3 km, and it will take around 2-3 hours to reach the top. You will be mesmerized by the panoramic view of the surroundings from the top.
    Afternoon: Head to the Soochipara Waterfalls, which is around 25 km from Chembra Peak. The waterfall has a three-tiered drop with a pool under it, and it's an excellent place for a refreshing dip.
    Evening: Visit the Edakkal Caves, which are known for its ancient rock art. It's a 30-minute drive from Soochipara Waterfalls. The caves are situated on top of a hill, and you need to climb uphill for about 1.5 km to reach the cave entrance.

  2. Day 2: Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary
    1 hour 15 minutes (45.4 km) from Kalpetta

    Morning: Start your day with a visit to the Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary. The sanctuary is situated in the Brahmagiri hills, and it's a great spot for bird watching. You need to trek for around 7 km to reach the bird sanctuary.
    Afternoon: Visit the Kuruva Island, which is around 17 km from Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary. The island is a heavenly abode with a lot of greenery, streams, and bamboo bridges. You can spend a few hours here relaxing and enjoying nature.
    Evening: Head to the Banasura Sagar Dam, which is around 31 km from Kuruva Island. It's the largest earth dam in India, and you can enjoy boating and other water sports activities here.

Recommendations

You can also consider visiting the Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary, Pookode Lake, and Meenmutty Waterfalls, which are also great attractions in Wayanad. A side trip to the nearby town of Sultan Bathery is also worth considering. You can maximize your fun by hiring a bike or a car and exploring the nearby regions at your own pace.
