Two-Day Itinerary for Waynad

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    18 minutes (8.3 miles) from Kalpetta

    Start your day early with a morning trek to Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Waynad. The trek starts at Meppady and takes approximately 3 hours to reach the top. Enjoy the breathtaking view of the heart-shaped lake from the peak. After lunch, visit the Edakkal Caves, an ancient cave site with petroglyphs dating back to the Neolithic era. In the evening, unwind at the Soochipara Waterfalls and take a dip in the pool at the bottom of the falls.

    Start your day with a visit to Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earth dam in India. Enjoy a boat ride on the dam's reservoir and take in the scenic view of the surrounding hills. After lunch, head to Kuruva Island, a serene and pristine riverine island with a dense forest cover. The island is perfect for a leisurely walk and offers opportunities for bird-watching and swimming in the river streams. In the evening, enjoy the sunset at Pookode Lake, a freshwater lake surrounded by green hills.

If you have some extra time, do not miss out on the Thirunelli Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, situated amidst the Brahmagiri hills. You can also visit the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, home to numerous wildlife species such as elephants, tigers, leopards, and deer. For adventure enthusiasts, you can go on a night safari or try zip-lining at the Waynad Adventure Camp.

If you have an extra day, you can plan a side trip to the nearby towns of Ooty or Coorg, both famous for their tea plantations, scenic vistas, and colonial architecture.
