4-Day Adventure Itinerary for Kedarnath in October 2023

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath Temple
    10 minutes (1.2 km) from Kedarnath Helipad

    In the morning, visit Kedarnath Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The serene beauty of the temple and the surrounding Himalayan range will leave you spellbound. In the afternoon, trek to Vasuki Tal, a high-altitude lake surrounded by snow-covered peaks. The trek is moderately difficult but worth it for the stunning views. In the evening, attend the evening aarti at Kedarnath Temple, a mesmerizing and spiritual experience.

  2. Day 2: Chorabari Tal and Gandhi Sarovar
    1 hour 20 minutes (4.9 km) from Kedarnath Temple

    In the morning, trek to Chorabari Tal, also known as Gandhi Sarovar, a glacial lake at an altitude of 3900 meters. The trek is challenging, but the view of the lake and the surrounding mountains is breathtaking. In the afternoon, visit Bhairav Temple, dedicated to Lord Bhairav, an incarnation of Lord Shiva. In the evening, relax and enjoy the scenic beauty of Kedarnath.

  3. Day 3: Tungnath and Chandrashila
    1 hour 40 minutes (5.2 km) from Kedarnath Temple

    In the morning, trek to Tungnath Temple, the highest Shiva temple in the world. The trek is moderate and passes through lush green meadows with beautiful views of the Himalayas. In the afternoon, trek to Chandrashila, the summit of Tungnath. The trek is steep, but once you reach the top, you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the Himalayas. In the evening, relax and enjoy the beauty of Kedarnath.

  4. Day 4: Sonprayag
    1 hour 30 minutes (27.2 km) from Kedarnath Temple

    In the morning, visit Triyuginarayan Temple, a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. In the afternoon, visit Sonprayag, a scenic and peaceful place where the holy river Mandakini meets the Basuki river. You can also go for a short trek to the nearby waterfall. In the evening, head back to Kedarnath for your onward journey.

Recommendations

If you have time, you can visit Guptkashi, a beautiful town located 40 km from Kedarnath, and Ukhimath, a quaint town with many temples. You can also go for a helicopter ride to get a bird’s eye view of the Himalayas. Don’t forget to try the local cuisine, especially the Garhwali food.
