4-Day Adventure Itinerary in Munnar and Alappuzha in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Trekking in the Western Ghats
    4 hours (80 miles) from Cochin International Airport

    In the morning, we will start with a 3-hour drive to the Western Ghats, where we will embark on a moderate-level trek through the lush green forests, passing by streams and waterfalls. After lunch at a local eatery, we will visit the Kolukkumalai Tea Estate, take a walk through the tea plantations and learn about the tea-making process. In the evening, we will return to Munnar town for dinner and overnight stay.

  2. Day 2: Exploring Munnar's Natural Beauty
    15 minutes (5 miles) from Munnar town

    We will start the day with a visit to the Mattupetty Dam and Lake, where we can enjoy boating and an elephant ride. Next, we will visit the Eravikulam National Park, known for its endangered Nilgiri Tahr and stunning panoramic views. After lunch, we will take a trip to the Top Station viewpoint, which offers breathtaking views of the Western Ghats. In the evening, we will return to Munnar town for dinner and overnight stay.

  3. Day 3: Houseboat Cruise in Alappuzha
    4 hours (110 miles) from Munnar town

    In the morning, we will check out of the hotel and start our journey to the backwaters of Alappuzha. We will board a luxurious houseboat for a leisurely cruise along the tranquil backwaters, passing by coconut groves, paddy fields, and local villages. We will enjoy a traditional Kerala lunch on the houseboat and spend the day relaxing and taking in the serene surroundings. In the evening, we will anchor the houseboat at a scenic spot to enjoy dinner and spend the night.

  4. Day 4: Beach Adventure in Alappuzha
    20 minutes (8 miles) from Alappuzha backwaters

    After breakfast on the houseboat, we will check out and head to Alappuzha Beach. Here, we will enjoy adventure activities such as surfing, parasailing, and banana boat rides. After lunch at a beachside restaurant, we will visit the ancient Alappuzha Lighthouse and spend some time admiring the stunning views from the top. In the evening, we will return to the airport for our departure flight.

Recommendations

If you have an extra day in Munnar, you can visit the Tea Museum, the Attukad Waterfall, and the Chinnakanal Waterfall. In Alappuzha, you can explore the Kuttanad region, visit the Ambalappuzha Sri Krishna Temple, and take a canoe ride through the narrow backwater canals. To maximize your fun, try local cuisine such as appam and stew, puttu and kadala curry, and fish molee. For a side trip, you can visit the nearby hill stations of Thekkady or Vagamon.
