2-Day Family Friendly Itinerary for Ooty in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Ooty Lake
    10 minutes (2 km) from Main Bus Stand

    Morning: Spend a relaxing morning at the serene Ooty Lake. Take a boat ride and enjoy the scenic views. The cool breeze and beautiful surroundings make it a perfect spot for a picnic with the family.

  2. Day 2: Nilgiri Mountain Railway

    Morning: Take a ride on the Nilgiri Mountain Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The train journey takes about 5 hours, but the stunning views of the mountains and valleys will make it worth your while.

    Afternoon: After your train journey, head to the Tea Museum, which is just a 5-minute drive from the railway station. Learn about the history and production of tea and sample some of the finest teas in the region.

    Evening: End your day with a visit to the tribal Toda huts in Ooty. These huts are unique to the region and give a glimpse into the lives of the Toda tribe that inhabits the Nilgiri hills. You can buy handmade Toda shawls and other souvenirs from the local artisans.

Recommendations

If you have time, visit the Avalanche Lake, which is located about 20 km from Ooty. The lake is surrounded by dense forests and is a popular spot for trout fishing and camping. You can also take a day trip to Coonoor, which is about 20 km from Ooty. Coonoor is known for its tea plantations and scenic views of the Nilgiri hills.

To maximize your fun, book a jeep safari to explore the Mudumalai National Park, which is about 50 km from Ooty. You can spot a variety of wildlife, including tigers, elephants, and leopards.

For a unique experience, take a ride on the Ooty Mountain Biking Trail. The trail covers a distance of 17 km and takes you through scenic landscapes and tea plantations.
