Darjeeling 4-Day Adventure Itinerary for October 2023

  1. Day 1: Happy Valley Tea Estate
    10 minutes (1.5 miles) from Darjeeling

    Start your day early with a visit to the Happy Valley Tea Estate, one of Darjeeling's most famous tea plantations. Take a guided tour of the plantation, learn about the tea-making process and enjoy a hot cup of Darjeeling tea. In the afternoon, explore the nearby Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, which includes a mountaineering museum, a collection of Himalayan flora and fauna, and a mountaineering training institute. In the evening, head to the Chowrasta Mall for some shopping and street food.

  2. Day 2: Sandakphu Trek
    2 hours (31.4 miles) from Darjeeling

    For an adventurous day out, take a trek to Sandakphu, the highest peak in West Bengal. The trek covers beautiful landscapes of rhododendrons and magnolias. It takes around 6-7 hours to reach the summit, which offers breathtaking views of the Everest and Kanchenjunga mountains. Return to Darjeeling by evening.

  3. Day 3: Darjeeling Himalayan Railway and Tiger Hill
    20 minutes (4.5 miles) from Darjeeling

    Start your day by experiencing the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Darjeeling. Take a joyride on the heritage train, which runs between Darjeeling and Ghum. After that, head to Tiger Hill, which is famous for its panoramic views of the sunrise over Kanchenjunga and the Himalayan range. Spend the afternoon exploring the nearby Batasia Loop and War Memorial.

  4. Day 4: Singalila National Park
    3 hours (46.8 miles) from Darjeeling

    For your last day in Darjeeling, take a trip to Singalila National Park, which is known for its diverse range of flora and fauna. Take a guided trek through the park, which is home to a variety of animals such as red panda, musk deer, and black bear. The trek offers stunning views of the Himalayas and the surrounding valleys. In the afternoon, head back to Darjeeling and visit the Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre to learn about the Tibetan refugee community and their handicrafts.

If you have time, consider visiting the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, the Tenzing Rock, and the Rock Garden. Another side trip could be a visit to nearby Kalimpong.
