3-Day Family Friendly Itinerary for Wayanad in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Pookode Lake
    30 minutes (8.3 km) from Sultan Bathery

    Start your day with a serene visit to Pookode Lake, a natural freshwater lake surrounded by lush greenery. Take a pedal boat ride or a rowboat and enjoy the scenic views. After a relaxing morning, head to Edakkal Caves, a prehistoric site with ancient rock art. The climb to the caves is challenging but worth it for the breathtaking views. End your day at the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earth dam in India, where you can enjoy a spectacular sunset and a coracle boat ride.

  2. Day 2: Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary
    1 hour 15 minutes (40 km) from Kalpetta

    Start your day with a visit to the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, home to various endangered and endemic species such as Indian bison, tigers, elephants and leopards. Take a Jeep Safari or a trek inside the jungle with an experienced guide. After lunch, head to Soochipara Falls, a three-tiered waterfall, where you can enjoy swimming and various adventure activities. End your day with a visit to the Chain Tree, a sacred fig tree with a fascinating folklore.

  3. Day 3: Chembra Peak
    1 hour 40 minutes (48 km) from Vythiri

    Start your day with a trek to the Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad, and enjoy the panoramic view from the top. It's a challenging trek, so make sure to carry enough water and snacks. After lunch, head to the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, where you can spot various wildlife species, including leopards, elephants, and tigers, on a jeep safari. End your day with a visit to the Kuruvadweep, a river island formed by the Kabini river, where you can enjoy a bamboo rafting experience.
