3-Day Adventure Itinerary for Wayanad in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Trekking in Chembra Peak
    30 minutes (9.6 miles) from Kalpetta Town

    Morning: Start your adventure with a trek to Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek starts through lush green tea plantations and then move to dense forests. You can reach the heart-shaped lake on the peak after a 3-hour trek. The lake is a perfect spot for a refreshing dip.
    Afternoon: Head towards the Pookode Lake, a serene freshwater lake amidst the lush green forest. Pedal boating and freshwater aquarium are some of the activities you can enjoy here.
    Evening: Visit the Edakkal Caves, a prehistoric rock shelter with carvings and inscriptions dating back to 6000 BC. The caves are located on Ambukuthi Hills and require a small trek to reach.

  2. Day 2: Wildlife Safari and Waterfall Visit
    40 minutes (13.7 miles) from Kalpetta Town

    Morning: Visit the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, home to a variety of flora and fauna including elephants, tigers, panthers, and various species of birds. The safari lasts for around 2 hours and is a great way to witness the wildlife.
    Afternoon: Visit the Soochipara Waterfalls, also known as Sentinel Rock Waterfalls. The waterfall is a three-tiered waterfall falling from a height of 200 meters. You can take a dip in the natural pool beneath the falls.
    Evening: Head towards the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India with a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. You can enjoy activities like speed boating and kayaking here.

  3. Day 3: Rock Climbing and Cave Exploration
    1 hour 20 minutes (29.6 miles) from Kalpetta Town

    Morning: Start your day with rock climbing and rappelling in Sunrise Valley, located near Chundale. The place offers a variety of rock climbing options for beginners as well as experts.
    Afternoon: Visit the Kuruva Island, a river island with dense forest cover. The island is a great place to relax and rejuvenate amidst nature. You can take a dip in the river or go for bamboo rafting here.
    Evening: End your trip with a visit to the Wayanad Heritage Museum in Ambalavayal. The museum showcases the tribal artifacts and heritage of Wayanad. Also, visit the nearby Jain Temple, an ancient temple with intricate carvings.
