4-Day Adventure Itinerary for Kedarnath in September 2023

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath Temple

  2. Day 2: Sonprayag

    In the morning, visit Sonprayag, which is located on the confluence of two holy rivers - Basuki and Mandakini. You can take a dip in the cold water and enjoy the serene views of the surrounding mountains. In the afternoon, you can indulge in some adventure activities like rock climbing, rappelling, and river rafting. In the evening, you can relax and enjoy the local cuisine.

  3. Day 3: Vasuki Tal
    3 hours and 41 minutes (9.5 miles) from GMVN Kedarnath Tourist Rest House

    In the morning, trek to Vasuki Tal, a high-altitude lake located at an altitude of 14,200 feet. The trek will take approximately 6 hours, but the stunning views of the Himalayas and the tranquil lake will be well worth the effort. In the afternoon, you can enjoy some fishing in the lake, and in the evening, you can enjoy a bonfire and stargazing.

  4. Day 4: Gandhi Sarovar
    2 hours and 20 minutes (9.1 miles) from GMVN Kedarnath Tourist Rest House

    In the morning, trek to Gandhi Sarovar, a picturesque lake located at an altitude of 14,100 feet. The trek will take around 4 hours, but the stunning views of the Himalayas and the serene lake will be well worth the effort. In the afternoon, you can visit the Vasuki Temple and explore the surrounding areas. In the evening, you can relax and enjoy the local cuisine.

Recommendations

If you have an extra day, you can visit Triyuginarayan Temple, which is located around 24 km from Kedarnath and is believed to be the place where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married. You can also consider a side trip to Badrinath, which is another important Hindu pilgrimage site located around 150 km from Kedarnath.

To maximize your fun, it is recommended to start your trek early in the morning, carry enough water and snacks, and wear comfortable trekking shoes. You can also hire a local guide to help you with the trek and explore the surrounding areas.
