4-Day City Experience Itinerary for Kedarnath in September 2023

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath Temple
    5 minutes (0.4 miles) from Kedarnath Helipad

    Morning: Visit the famous Kedarnath Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India and a popular pilgrimage site for Hindus. The temple is located at an altitude of 3,583 meters and is said to have been built by the Pandavas in the Mahabharata era. The morning darshan starts at 4:00 am and lasts till 12:30 pm.
    Afternoon: Enjoy a trek to Vasuki Tal, a high altitude lake located at 4,150 meters above sea level. The trek is around 8 km long and offers breathtaking views of the Kedarnath Range.
    Evening: Relax and rejuvenate at the Kedarnath Hot Springs, located around 20 km from the temple. The hot water springs are believed to have medicinal properties and provide a soothing experience.

  2. Day 2: Shankaracharya Samadhi
    12 minutes (3.8 miles) from Kedarnath Temple

    Morning: Visit Shankaracharya Samadhi, the final resting place of Sri Adi Shankaracharya, a great philosopher and theologian who is credited with unifying and establishing the main currents of thought in Hinduism. The samadhi is located in Kedarnath and is open from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm.
    Afternoon: Visit the Gandhi Sarovar, a glacial lake located at an altitude of 3,900 meters and around 16 km from Kedarnath. The lake is named after Mahatma Gandhi and offers a serene environment surrounded by majestic peaks.
    Evening: Explore the local market and try some local delicacies like Kachmauli, a sweet dish made with rice flour and jaggery, or Bhang ki Chutney, a spicy chutney made with cannabis leaves.

  3. Day 3: Gaurikund
    1 hour 15 minutes (26.6 miles) from Kedarnath Temple

    Morning: Visit Gaurikund, a small town located at the confluence of the Mandakini and Ganga rivers. The town is named after Goddess Parvati, who is also known as Gauri. The town is the starting point for the trek to Kedarnath and is also known for its natural hot water springs.
    Afternoon: Visit the Triyuginarayan Temple, located around 12 km from Gaurikund. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is believed to be the place where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married. The temple is open from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm.
    Evening: Enjoy a scenic drive to Sonprayag, a picturesque town located at the confluence of the Mandakini and Songanga rivers. The town is known for its natural beauty and is a great place to relax and unwind.

  4. Day 4: Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary

    Morning: Visit the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, a protected area located in the Himalayas and home to a variety of flora and fauna, including the snow leopard, musk deer, and the Himalayan black bear.     Afternoon: Visit the Tungnath Temple, the highest Shiva temple in the world and located at an altitude of 3,680 meters above sea level. The temple is one of the Panch Kedar temples and is believed to have been built by the Pandavas.
