A 4-Day Itinerary for Wayanad in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Edakkal Caves
    30 minutes (10 miles) from Kalpetta

    In the morning, explore the Edakkal Caves, a group of ancient caves that display some of the oldest known petroglyphs. Afternoon, head to the Wayanad Heritage Museum to learn about the history and culture of the region. In the evening, visit the Pookode Lake, a beautiful freshwater lake surrounded by lush greenery.

  2. Day 2: Banasura Sagar Dam
    1 hour (25 miles) from Kalpetta

    Start your day by visiting the Banasura Sagar Dam, one of the largest earth dams in India. Afternoon, head to the Meenmutty Falls, a three-tiered waterfall surrounded by dense forests. In the evening, explore the Kuruva Island, an uninhabited island in the middle of the Kabini River that is home to a vast variety of flora and fauna.

  3. Day 3: Thirunelli Temple
    1 hour 30 minutes (40 miles) from Kalpetta

    Visit the Thirunelli Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Afternoon, take a nature walk through the Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary, home to a diverse range of wildlife including elephants, tigers, and leopards. In the evening, visit the Wayanad Tea Museum to learn about the history of tea production in the region.

  4. Day 4: Kuruvadweep
    1 hour 30 minutes (40 miles) from Kalpetta

    On your last day, head to Kuruvadweep, a group of small islands in the Kabini River. Take a bamboo raft ride through the peaceful river and explore the natural beauty of the islands. Afternoon, visit the Soochipara Falls, a beautiful three-tiered waterfall that is ideal for trekking. In the evening, enjoy a peaceful sunset at the Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad.

Be sure to visit the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary if you want to see the wildlife of the region up close. You can also take a day trip to the nearby Bandipur National Park in Karnataka.
