A Day in Coorg's Natural Beauty in June 2023

  1. 9:00AM: Abbey Falls
20 minutes (6.3 miles) from Madikeri

Enjoy the scenic views of the falls and the surrounding coffee plantations. The falls are at their best during monsoon season and are a popular picnic spot. A short hike to the falls is available, but wear comfortable shoes as the path can be slippery.

  2. 11:00AM: Dubare Reserve Forest and Elephant Camp
1 hour 10 minutes (23.8 miles) from Abbey Falls

A perfect opportunity to get up close and personal with elephants. You can learn about elephants, feed them and even bathe them. The Dubare Reserve Forest offers amazing trekking trails and river rafting experiences for an extra fee.

  3. 1:30PM: Raja's Seat
1 hour 20 minutes (34.1 miles) from Dubare Reserve Forest and Elephant Camp

A historical garden that offers stunning panoramic views of the mountains of Coorg. It was a favorite spot of the kings of Kodagu who would come to relax and enjoy the view. A musical fountain show is held in the evenings.

  4. 4:00PM: Talacauvery and Bhagamandala Temple
    1 hour 10 minutes (24.6 miles) from Raja's Seat

Talacauvery is the birthplace of the river Cauvery and is a sacred spot for Hindus. A temple is built on the spot where the river originates. Bhagamandala has a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and is built at the confluence of three rivers - Cauvery, Kannike, and Sujyoti.

  5. 6:00PM: Sunset at Mandalpatti
2 hours (30.3 miles) from Talacauvery and Bhagamandala Temple

A scenic hilltop that offers panoramic views of the Western Ghats and is perfect for watching the sunset. The drive up to Mandalpatti is a bit tricky, and it is recommended to hire a local guide. You can also enjoy off-roading and bike rides at Mandalpatti.

Recommendations

Coorg offers various trekking trails, river rafting experiences, and wildlife safaris that you can enjoy if you have more time. You can also visit the Namdroling Monastery, also known as the Golden Temple, and witness the day to day life of the monks. You can take a day trip to the nearby Nagarhole National Park, which is home to tigers, elephants, and many other wildlife species.

To maximize your fun, start your day early, and hire a local guide who can help you save time and take you to the best spots.
