Exploring Wayanad's Nature in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Banasura Sagar Dam
    40 minutes (19.8 km) from Kalpetta

    Start your day with a visit to the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India. The serene surroundings of the dam, with the Banasura hills in the background, are ideal for a peaceful morning walk. You can also go boating on the dam or opt for a guided trek to the Banasura hills. After a refreshing morning, head to the nearby Banasura Hill Resort for a sumptuous lunch. In the evening, explore the Meenmutty Waterfalls, one of the most stunning waterfalls in Wayanad. The falls are located in the middle of lush green forests and a 2 km trek is required to reach the falls. The trek is moderately difficult and it is recommended to wear comfortable shoes for the trek.

  2. Day 2: Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary
    1 hour 13 minutes (47.6 km) from Kalpetta

    Get ready for a wildlife adventure at the Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary. One of the most popular wildlife sanctuaries in Wayanad, Tholpetty is home to a wide variety of animals such as elephants, tigers, leopards, and bears. The sanctuary offers guided Jeep safaris that take you through the dense forests, grasslands, and waterholes where you can spot some of these magnificent animals in their natural habitat. After your safari, visit the nearby Kuruvadweep Island, a cluster of small islands formed by the Kabini River. The island is a natural paradise with dense forests, rare species of birds, and crystal clear streams that offer a refreshing swim.

  3. Day 3: Chembra Peak
    1 hour 29 minutes (54.9 km) from Kalpetta

    On your last day in Wayanad, challenge yourself with a trek to the Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek route is a 4 km hike to the peak that takes around 3-4 hours to complete. The trek is moderately difficult and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and valleys. The peak is also home to a heart-shaped lake, which is a popular spot for photography. After the trek, head to the nearby Soochipara Waterfalls, another beautiful waterfall that cascades down from a height of 200 meters. The falls offer a refreshing swim in the natural pool below.
