Start your day with a hike to the highest peak in Wayanad, Chembra Peak. The trek takes about 3-4 hours and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Be sure to obtain the necessary permits and carry water and snacks for the hike.
After the trek, head to the Wayanad Heritage Museum to learn about the history and culture of the region. The museum displays artefacts from the Neolithic era to the 20th century. It also has a section dedicated to tribal artefacts and lifestyle.
Spend the afternoon at Pookode Lake, a natural freshwater lake surrounded by lush greenery. Enjoy a boat ride, go fishing or take a leisurely stroll around the lake. The lake is also a popular spot for birdwatching.
End your day with a visit to the Edakkal Caves, a prehistoric site that dates back to the Neolithic era. The caves have rock etchings and carvings that depict human and animal figures, symbols and ancient scripts.
If you have time, consider visiting the Jain Temple in Sultan Bathery or taking a jeep safari in the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary. If you want to extend your stay in Wayanad, you can also visit the Banasura Sagar Dam or go for a tea plantation walk. Make sure to try some of the local delicacies such as bamboo rice, kozhikode biriyani and pazham pori (banana fritters).
