2-Day Itinerary for Ooty in September 2023

  1. Day 1: Doddabetta Peak
    10 minutes (4.5km) from Ooty Bus Stand

    Morning: To begin the day, head to Doddabetta Peak. Standing tall at 8,600 feet above sea level, it is the highest peak in the Nilgiri range. Enjoy the panoramic views of the valley from the telescope house at the peak.

    Afternoon: Next up, visit the Ooty Botanical Gardens. The gardens hold more than 1,000 plant species, including rare orchids and ferns. While taking a leisurely stroll around the gardens, you can also enjoy a picnic with your family and friends.

    Evening: End the day with a visit to the famous Ooty Lake. Take a boat ride and enjoy the scenic beauty of the lake, surrounded by eucalyptus trees and greenery. You can also enjoy some street food from the vendors nearby.

  2. Day 2: Pykara Lake and Falls
    40 minutes (20km) from Ooty Bus Stand

    Morning: Begin the day with a visit to the Pykara Lake and Falls. The lake is surrounded by lush green forests and offers boating facilities. Next, head to the Pykara Falls, where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the waterfall.

    Afternoon: In the afternoon, visit the Thread Garden, which is a garden made entirely of thread. It features a variety of flowers, plants, and animals, all made of colorful threads. Visitors can also purchase souvenirs made of thread.

    Evening: Finally, head to the Rose Garden, which is home to more than 2,000 varieties of roses. The garden also features a statue of the famous freedom fighter, Mahatma Gandhi. End the day with a visit to the Government Museum, which houses tribal artifacts, sculptures, and other historical items related to the Nilgiris.

If you have more time, you can visit the following places: Avalanche Lake, Emerald Lake, and the Kalhatti Falls. For a day trip, you can visit Coonoor, which is just 20 km from Ooty and is famous for its tea plantations.
