2-Day Itinerary for Wayanad in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Edakkal Caves
    30 minutes (10.5 km) from Kalpetta

    Start your day by visiting the famous Edakkal Caves, located 1200 meters above sea level. These caves are known for their prehistoric carvings and paintings that date back to 5000 BC. Take a guided tour to learn more about these ancient treasures. Afternoon, head to Pookode Lake, a beautiful freshwater lake surrounded by lush green forests. Take a boat ride, or hike around the lake and enjoy the scenic views. In the evening, visit the Soochipara Waterfalls, a three-tiered waterfall that cascades down from a height of 200 meters. Take a dip in the cool waters or trek up to the top tier for a panoramic view of the waterfall.

  2. Day 2: Banasura Sagar Dam
    1 hour 20 minutes (40 km) from Kalpetta

    Start your day by visiting the Banasura Sagar Dam, one of the largest earth dams in India. Take a boat ride on the serene waters of the dam and enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding hills. Afternoon, head to the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, a protected area known for its rich biodiversity. Take a jeep safari and spot elephants, tigers, leopards, and other wildlife in their natural habitat. In the evening, visit the Lakkidi View Point, located at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level. Enjoy the mesmerizing views of the valley and the surrounding hills from this popular vantage point.

If you have additional time, consider visiting the Kuruvadweep Island, a serene river island located in the Kabini River. You can also visit the Thirunelli Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, located amidst the lush forests of Wayanad. For a day trip, you can visit the Bandipur National Park, located in the neighboring state of Karnataka, which is known for its tiger and elephant population.
