One-day Itinerary for Coorg in July 2023

  1. 9:00AM: Abbey Falls
    30 minutes (8.5 km) from Madikeri

    Located amidst the lush green coffee plantations, Abbey Falls is a picturesque waterfall that cascades from a height of 70 feet. The waterfalls into a pool which makes for a perfect spot for swimming. The best time to visit is during monsoon season when the waterfall is at its full glory.

  2. 11:00AM: Talacauvery and Bhagamandala Temple
    1 hour 45 minutes (44.3 km) from Abbey Falls

    Talacauvery is the origin of River Cauvery and is considered to be a sacred place by the locals. Visit the nearby Bhagamandala temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva and has a unique Kerala-style architecture. The temple is surrounded by foothills and is a beautiful place to spend some time in peace.

  3. 1:30PM: Lunch at Raintree Restaurant
    45 minutes (24.8 km) from Bhagamandala Temple

    Enjoy a sumptuous meal at Raintree Restaurant which is known for its Coorgi delicacies. Don't forget to try their pandi curry, a pork dish which is a must-try when in Coorg.

  4. 3:00PM: Dubare Elephant Camp
    1 hour 20 minutes (40.8 km) from Raintree Restaurant

    Get up close and personal with the gentle giants at Dubare Elephant Camp. Watch them being bathed, fed and trained by their mahouts. You can even take an elephant ride which is a unique experience. Make sure to book in advance.

  5. 5:00PM: Sunset at Raja's Seat
    30 minutes (16.5 km) from Dubare Elephant Camp

    End your day with a stunning sunset view at Raja's Seat. This garden was once the favourite spot of the Kings of Coorg who came here to watch the sunset. The view of the valley and the hills from here is breath-taking.

Recommendations

Coorg is full of hidden gems that you should consider visiting if you have more time. Some of these include the Namdroling Monastery, the Madikeri Fort, and the Chelavara Falls. If you have the time, take a day trip to the nearby Nagarhole National Park which is home to a variety of wildlife such as tigers, elephants, and leopards. Make sure to carry sunscreen and insect repellent and wear comfortable shoes for the trip.
