Two-day Itinerary for Coorg in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Abbey Falls
    20 minutes (7.5 miles) from Madikeri

    Start your day with a visit to Abbey Falls, a stunning waterfall surrounded by lush greenery and coffee plantations. Take a leisurely walk to the waterfall from the parking area, and enjoy the misty spray of the falls as it cascades down into the pool below. Afterward, explore the nearby coffee plantations and spice gardens. In the afternoon, head to Madikeri city center for a delicious Coorgi lunch, and then visit the Madikeri Fort and Raja's Seat for panoramic views of the surrounding hills. In the evening, head to Omkareshwara Temple, a stunning example of Indo-Islamic architecture, for an evening puja.

  2. Day 2: Dubare Elephant Camp
    1 hour (25 miles) from Madikeri

    Start your day with a visit to Dubare Elephant Camp, where you can interact with elephants and learn about their daily routines. Watch the elephants being bathed and fed, and take a ride on their backs. Afterward, head to Nisargadhama, a beautiful island surrounded by the Cauvery River, for a picnic lunch and a stroll through the bamboo groves. In the afternoon, visit the Namdroling Monastery, the largest Tibetan settlement in South India, and observe the daily rituals of the monks. In the evening, head to Mandalpatti for a breathtaking sunset view of the Western Ghats.

Recommendations

If you have more time, consider visiting the Talakaveri Wildlife Sanctuary or the Chelavara Falls. For day trips, you can visit the historic town of Mysore or the stunning hill station of Ooty. To maximize your fun, try some of the local delicacies like pandi curry, kadumbuttu, and bamboo shoot curry.
