Discover Wayanad in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Edakkal Caves
    40 minutes (13.8 km) from Kalpetta

    Explore the Edakkal Caves in the morning, a prehistoric rock shelter formed naturally by a large split in a huge rock. The cave contains ancient petroglyphs, pictorial writings believed to be over 6000 years old. In the afternoon, visit the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, which is located on the border of Wayanad and Karnataka. You can spot a wide range of flora and fauna, including elephants, tigers, leopards, and deer. In the evening, head to Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India and enjoy boating while watching the sunset.

  2. Day 2: Chembra Peak
    1 hour 5 minutes (22.6 km) from Kalpetta

    Start your morning trekking to Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek to the summit is a bit challenging, but the panoramic view from the top makes it worth the effort. In the afternoon, visit the Soochipara Waterfalls, one of the most picturesque waterfalls in South India. You can swim and relax in the natural pool at the bottom of the waterfall. In the evening, enjoy a cup of tea at the Pookode Lake, a natural freshwater lake surrounded by forests and mountains.

  3. Day 3: Thirunelli Temple
    1 hour 15 minutes (36.6 km) from Kalpetta

    Start your day by visiting the Thirunelli Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is located in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains and streams. In the afternoon, visit the Banasura Hill, the second-highest peak in Wayanad. The hill offers a magnificent view of the Wayanad landscape. In the evening, head to the Lakkidi View Point, the gateway to Wayanad. The view from the top is spectacular, and you can see the winding roads and valleys of Wayanad.

If you have more time, visit the Kuruva Island, a group of small islands on the Kabini River. You can also explore the Chain Tree, a tree with a legend behind it, and the Pazhassi Raja Tomb, which is the tomb of the great warrior king Pazhassi Raja.
