2-Day Itinerary for Amritsar in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Golden Temple
10 minutes (3.2 km) from Amritsar Junction Railway Station

Begin your morning at the serene Golden Temple, also known as Harmandir Sahib. The temple's gold-plated façade glimmers in the sunlight, and the reflection from the water is breathtaking. The temple is open 24/7, and early mornings are less crowded. Take a stroll around the temple premises and witness the Sikh community's faith and devotion. Try the community lunch, Langar, which is served to everyone, regardless of religion. Afternoon hours are ideal for exploring the architecture and learning about the temple's history. In the evening, witness the Palki Sahib ceremony, where the holy book is carried from the main temple to the inner sanctum.

  2. Day 2: Jallianwala Bagh and Wagah Border
10 minutes (2.3 km) from Golden Temple

In the morning, visit the Jallianwala Bagh, a memorial garden that commemorates the 1919 massacre. The garden has bullet holes in the walls, which tell the story of the horrific incident. Spend some time at the museum to understand the Indian freedom struggle's significance. In the afternoon, head towards the Wagah Border, which is 30 minutes away from Jallianwala Bagh. It is a daily military practice that the security forces of India (Border Security Force) and Pakistan (Pakistan Rangers) have jointly followed since 1959. Experience the patriotic fervor of the soldiers, the cheering crowd, and the lowering of the flags. Plan to arrive at least two hours before the ceremony in the evening, which starts at 5:30 pm in August.

Recommendations
