4-Day Waynad Itinerary in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    20 minutes (8.7 miles) from Kalpetta

    Get ready for a challenging hike to the highest peak in Wayanad, Chembra. The trek takes roughly 3-4 hours to complete and is spread across a 7km trail. The initial part of the hike is leisurely, but the last 500 meters are steep and will require a lot of effort but it is worth it. The heart-shaped Chembra lake at the top is a natural marvel and provides a breathtaking view of the surroundings. After completing the hike, take some time to relax and have lunch at the nearby eateries.

  2. Day 2: Banasura Sagar Dam
    50 minutes (23.4 miles) from Chembra Peak

    Banasura Sagar Dam is one of the most beautiful places in Wayanad. The dam is situated amidst greenery and offers a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. You can take a speedboat ride on the dam's lake, indulge in zip-lining and trekking. The dam also has a park and a children's play area where you can relax with your family and friends. The nearby restaurants serve delicious food. In the evening, you can take a stroll around the nearby villages and enjoy the local culture.

  3. Day 3: Edakkal Caves
    1 hour 20 minutes (36.4 miles) from Banasura Sagar Dam

    Experience prehistoric life at the Edakkal Caves. The caves are located on top of Ambukuthi hill and the view from the top is mesmerizing. The caves are said to be over 8000 years old and contain ancient inscriptions and paintings. The hike to the caves takes around 45 minutes and is moderately difficult. You can hire a guide to help you understand the history and significance of the caves. After the hike, you can have lunch at the nearby restaurants and head back to your hotel for some rest.

  4. Day 4: Thirunelli Temple
    1 hour 30 minutes (46.5 miles) from Edakkal Caves

    Thirunelli Temple, located in a forested area, is one of the most ancient and divine pilgrimage sites in Kerala. The temple is surrounded by a serene river and green hills. It is believed that the waters of the river have medicinal properties. You can take a dip in the river and offer prayers at the temple. The temple also has a small museum where you can learn about the temple's history and the rituals followed here. In the evening, you can go shopping at the nearby stalls and buy souvenirs to take back home.
